TIM WILLIAMS
MORGAN Warneford’s
course is ideal for her because
it’s medically related but with-
out the nausea-inducing blood
and guts – for the most part.
The biomedical engineering
student, about to embark on
her third year at Flinders Uni-
versity, has taken part in
research projects with her
teachers including one testing
vertebrae from cadavers to
analysing spinal movement
under different forces.
“I came quite close (to pass-
ing out) the first time,” she
said.
“Even though I am not fan-
tastic with those things, I am
good at analysis. Within that
field there’s a lot of analysis.”
Morgan, 19, said the course
could lead to careers ranging
from medical imaging to pros-
thetics.
The former Mitcham Girls
High School student began her
studies at the Bedford Park
campus before her classes
shifted into the new $120 mil-
lion Flinders at Tonsley build-
ing last year.
“It was a bit of a jump I sup-
pose because at Bedford Park
there are so many people and it
wasn’t the close, tight-knit
group like it was in Year 12,’’
she said.
“At Tonsley it’s been very
easy. It is a lot smaller than
Bedford Park and a lot less
confusing. “It’s been amazing,
the facility and equipment –it’s
all contributing to the learning
we do in class.”
This time two years ago,
Morgan was among thousands
of hopefuls just finding out
which course she had won a
place in. Now she is success-
fully balancing her study with
part-time work. “I thought that
I could work a lot more than
was probably realistic. You
want to get good marks at uni
so you don’t want to compro-
mise that for a few extra dol-
lars on the side,” she said.
