Scheduling a Practice Session
1. The Rack Room is located in the Engineering Building (103) on the Main Campus in room 226
(103-226)
2. Reserve an equipment rack at https://beausanders.org/reservations
3. No more than three students can be invited/participate in a practice session
4. When arriving to practice, check in with a Lab Manager in room 103-115
5. Sign-in on the CPT275 Practice Log
6. The Lab Manager provide a key card to unlock room 103-226. The equipment rack you
reserved should be unlocked
7. If for some reason you cannot practice at the reserved time, please be professional and
courteous to your CPT275 classmates by cancelling your reservation at
https://beausanders.org/reservations
Cable and Troubleshoot Layer 1 of the Network
1. In room 103-226 there are two plastic boxes containing the cables and disks necessary to
setup and configure the network and servers
a. Use only one plastic box, leave the other box as is
b. Be sure to account for all cables and disks during your practice session
2. Use the correct cables and ports to physically connect the network shown in the figure above
a. You should have enough correct cables, but they are various lengths, so be sure to use
the correct length cable, as well as the correct cable
b. Do NOT connect any cables to the ports in the wall of room 103-226; you do NOT need
access to the Internet or the school's backbone to complete this exam

Server A/B: Red Hat Enterprise Linux
1. Power up the equipment rack by turning on the power supply in the middle of the equipment
rack near the shelf
2. The KVM switch (keyboard, video, mouse) is controlled by an On-Screen Display which is
accessed and toggled with the Print-Screen key on the keyboard
3. Install Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6 or CentOS 6 (32-bit) on Server A/B1; press F11 for the Boot
Manager if needed; do NOT install version 7 of these operating systems; refer to the CentOS6
Installation tutorial posted in our Blackboard class page
4. Create two primary partitions; /boot is 1024 MB and / is 6 GB
5. Create one swap partition that is 2 GB
6. Set the root password to redhat
7. Configure the Linux server (A/B1) as a Web server; make sure httpd is running
8. The firewall on Server A/B1 must be enabled allowing only the Web server access; disable
access through the firewall to all unnecessary ports
9. Enable SELinux; SELinux must be enforcing
10. Statically assign the IP address of Server A/B1 to the first usable address in the correct
subnet
11. Create a group named CPT275ExamLinux
12. Create a standard user named elvis with a password of redhat; elvis should have
CPT275ExamLinux as a secondary group assignment

Server A/B2: Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R1
1. Install Windows Server 2008 R1 (32-bit) on Server A/B2; press F11 for the Boot Manager if
needed; refer to the Windows Server 2008 Installation tutorial on our Blackboard class page
2. Create one primary partition that is 20 GB
3. Set the administrator password to Password01
4. Install the NIC drivers for the dual Broadcom NetXtreme II network ports:
a. Insert the CD provided in the plastic box in the optical drive
b. Open the WindowsServer2008_x86 folder on the CD
c. Open the Broadcom folder
d. Open the Driver_Management_Apps_Installer folder
e. Click on the Setup application
f. Take all of the default options in the Setup application
g. After installing the driver, check Device Manager to make sure the Network ports are
correctly configured
5. Statically assign the IP address of Server A/B2 to the first usable address in the correct
subnet
6. Configure the Windows server (A/B2) as a Domain Controller for the domain
CPT275ExamDomain
7. Configure the Windows server (A/B2) as a DNS server
8. Setup a domain user group named CPT275ExamUsers
9. Setup a domain user named CPT275Client
10. Configure the Windows server (A/B2) as a DHCP server with a scope of the 2nd through 11th
useable IP addresses in the correct subnet
11. The firewall on Server A/B2 must be enabled
a. Allow the Domain Controller, DNS, and DHCP server access
b. Under Exceptions allow Win Logon and Kerberos Key Distribution
c. Disable access through the firewall to all unnecessary ports

Server A/B3: Windows 7 Professional
1. Install Windows 7 Professional (32-bit) on Server A/B3; press F11 for the Boot Manager if
needed
2. Create one primary partition that is 12 GB
3. Use Product ID: PQ76B-FQ3BR-XKRFT-MGD6F-7GF4M
4. Set the local administrator password to localadmin
5. Install the NIC drivers for the dual Broadcom NetXtreme II network ports:
a. Insert the CD provided in the plastic box in the optical drive
b. Open the correct x86 folder on the CD
c. Open the Broadcom folder
d. Click on the Setup application
e. Take all of the default options in the Setup application
6. After installing the driver, check Device Manager to make sure the Network ports are correctly
configured
7. Disable the Windows Welcome Screen and configure Windows 7 to require users to login
8. Configure the Windows 7 Server (A/B3) as a DHCP client; it should receive DNS and DHCP
information from the Windows Server 2008 Server A/B2
9. Server A/B3 must have a computer account in the domain CPT275ExamDomain
10. You should be able to login to the domain CPT275ExamDomain as user CPT275Client from
Server A/B3
11.The Windows Firewall should be enabled

Cisco Routers (Router A/B1 and Router A/B2)
Use Server A/B3 to configure the Cisco routers
Create an Addressing Scheme:
1. Use the 192.168.____.0/24 or 172.____.0.0/16 address to create an addressing scheme
to accommodate all hosts on the network
a. You will need to subnet either a private Class C or private Class B network
b. (can vary **) = practice using various numbers of hosts on the networks you subnet
c. go to http://easysubnetting.com for help on subnetting
Document all subnet addresses in Table 1

Perform Basic Router Configuration:
1. Configure console and enable passwords to CPT275
2. Configure the Message of the Day Banner to “CPT275 Performance Exam”
3. Configure the router interfaces
Configure EIGRP with Process ID 1:
1. Configure EIGRP on Router A/B1 and Router A/B2
2. Configure each router so that subnet mask information about each network is propagated
within the EIGRP updates
3. Verify that each router has a path to each network in the autonomous system
Test and Verify Connectivity
Completion Test for Practice Performance Exam
1. Upon completion of all network setup and configuration, domain user CPT275Client should
be able to login to the domain CPT275ExamDomain from Server A/B3 and then view the
default Web page on the Linux Web Server (Server A/B1) by entering the IP address of
Server A/B1 in Internet E7lorer on Server A/B3
2. Each configuration element specified above should be setup, configured, and running at the
completion of the exam

Cleanup and Null Systems
At the end of each practice session, each CPT275 student is e7ected to do the following cleanup
to prepare the equipment rack for the next practice session:
1. Run the following commands on Router A/B1 and Router A/B2 which will reboot the
routers and initiate a setup:
ROUTER# erase startup‐config 
ROUTER# reload 
2. Leave the routers UNCONFIGURED
3. Remove all cables and store them in the plastic box for that equipment rack
4. Insert one of the three Windows PE 3.0 CDs provided in the plastic box in each of the
servers' CD-ROM drives
5. Reboot each of the three servers to the CD (press F11 for the Boot Manager if necessary)
6. At the command prompt in Windows PE run the following commands:
    diskpart 
    select disk 0 
    list partition      [Note how many partitions have been created and their numbers]
    select partition 1 
    delete partition override 
    list partition      [Repeat the last two commands for each partition]
    exit 
    exit 
 
7. Leave each server with NO PARTITIONS configured
8. Remove all CDs and store them with the other disks in the plastic box
9. Turn off power to the equipment rack by switching off the power supply near the shelf
10. Do NOT unplug the equipment rack
11. Close the doors to the equipment rack
12. Return to room 103-115 and log out on the CPT275 Practice Log
13. Notify the Lab Manager that the equipment rack and room 103-226 need to be locked at
once
Be aware that each student that practices on an equipment rack is responsible for the
safekeeping of the equipment, as well as the successful cleanup and nulling of the systems.
If a student fails to complete these tasks, they will be subject to losing future practice
sessions for the CPT275 Performance Exam.

Run the following commands on Router A/B1 and Router A/B2 which will reboot the routers and initiate a setup: ROUTER# erase startup‐config  ROUTER# reload  2. Leave the routers UNCONFIGURED 3. Remove all cables and store them in the plastic box for that equipment rack 4. Insert one of the three Windows PE 3.0 CDs provided in the plastic box in each of the servers' CD-ROM drives 5. Reboot each of the three servers to the CD (press F11 for the Boot Manager if necessary) 6. At the command prompt in Windows PE run the following commands:     diskpart      select disk 0      list partition      [Note how many partitions have been created and their numbers]     select partition 1      delete partition override      list partition      [Repeat the last two commands for each partition]     exit      exit    7. Leave each server with NO PARTITIONS configured 8. Remove all CDs and store them with the other disks in the plastic box 9. Turn off power to the equipment rack by switching off the power supply near the shelf 10. Do NOT unplug the equipment rack 11. Close the doors to the equipment rack 12. Return to room 103-115 and log out on the CPT275 Practice Log 13. Notify the Lab Manager that the equipment rack and room 103-226 need to be locked at once Be aware that each student that practices on an equipment rack is responsible for the safekeeping of the equipment, as well as the successful cleanup and nulling of the systems. If a student fails to complete these tasks, they will be subject to losing future practice sessions for the CPT275 Performance Exam.
