3. Delving Deeper…
The following slides consist of more in-depth research into
particular individuals that I believe are the main inspiration of
the costumes for ‘The Story of Us’. The individuals mentioned
are not just of characters from films, but from TV, musicians
and all-around celebrities.
4. Skins: Emily
I imagine Katy’s costume
design to be similar to that of
the character Emily from the
popular teen-tastic drama
series that is Skins.
Emily (left) has a bespoke
individual style that combines
the best of preppy, grungy and
kitsch influences in a way that
is truly her own. I want the
character of Katy to have a
similar costume to Emily
because the way in which
Emily reflects her character
through clothing is very close
to the way in which we want
Katy to. The one preferred
difference between Emily and
Katy is that Katy will have more
bright colours in her wardrobe
and boots instead of the heels
as seen left.
5. Alex
Gaskarth
Alex Gaskarth is the lead singer
and guitarist of the famous rock
band All Time Low. His look as
displayed in the picture is
representative of ‘The Three C’s’ of
menswear: Cool, Comfortable and
Casual.
Since I imagine the character of
Luke – as a typical ‘indie’
teenager- being a member of a
band, I believe that Alex
represents the style of costume
that Luke would have. In the top
photograph, Alex is only seen from
the waist upwards; this, I believe,
is a good representation of the
teen male outlook on fashion in
that most teen boys focus their
attention on their t-shirts, hoodies
etc. and wear a simple pair of
jeans because they are very
compatible.
6. Peaches
Geldof
Peaches Geldof has been
seen as a Teen Fashion Idol
by many. To me, her eclectic
mix of classical and funky
styles makes her a near
perfect candidate for the
inspiration for Katy’s costume.
Peaches and her friend as
pictured to the left are two
very good examples of the
sort of clothes our actress,
Amelia owns and has chosen
to be her costume for the film.
7. Angus, Thongs and Perfect
Snogging: Robbie
I picked Aaron Johnson in this role because the movie ‘Angus, Thongs and
Perfect Snogging’ is also a Romantic Comedy and Robbie is the main male
role, as Luke is. In the film, Robbie has a very casual rocker style that also
ties in well with the style that we want Luke to have.
