My Name is Mohamed Medhat Hussain Ahmed and I am a trained Credit
Analyst. I am about to finish my MSc degree in Financial Risk Management from
Keele University, United Kingdom. A year ago, I was offered a Chevening Scholarship
by the UK Government, specifically the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, based on
educational merit and leadership skills. So, I made a vital decision and resigned from
my job as "Credit Analyst" at the Commercial International Bank (CIB), one of the
leading banks and the largest private-sector bank in Egypt, and travelled to start my
MSc year. During my term at the CIB (from 2009 till 2015) I started as a branch
representative, and then made up my way through both Corporate and Retail
Banking, holding respectively the positions of Credit Analyst and Deputy Branch
Manager for one of the top bank branches in terms of operations and revenue
generation.
One of the highlights of my CIB experience was attending and passing
with honourable mention the highly competitive and demanding 9-month CIB Credit
Course which encompassed a number of credit and finance-related modules,
including financial statement analysis, projections, valuations and financial
institutions. The course was held at CIB, enabling us to study real cases and real
numbers and to see how to lend and how to mitigate the risk of credit and to accept
a certain amount of calculated risks.
During my undergraduate years at the Faculty of Commerce, Cairo
University, I actively participated in extracurricular activities on campus, such as
virtual models of the United Nations and of the stock market exchange; I spent two
afternoons each week playing basketball; and I worked consecutively at an
international call centre, and at the two largest outsourcing companies in Egypt:
Raya Contact Center (RCC) from 2005 till 2007, and Xceed from 2007 till 2009. I
successfully worked for a number of brand names including Microsoft Sales,
Microsoft Technical Support & Cisco Sales. My high English language proficiency and
computer skills were big assets, and the flexible working schedule of these jobs
enabled me to combine work and study.
Living and studying in the UK for the past year has been a wonderful and
life-changing experience at the academic and personal levels. Determined to keep
up-to-date with the latest developments in my academic field of specialty – Financial
Analysis – I decided to I study for my MSc degree, even if this meant the sacrifice of a
highly satisfactory CIB job. The United Kingdom was my first choice due to its
reputation for providing high quality education and I chose Keele University as this
institution offered the course I was most interested in: Financial Risk Management.
My study at Keele's has added significantly to my previous knowledge: we covered
several modules including financial markets, fixed income securities, credit analysis,
quantitative finance, corporate finance and portfolio risk management. I've achieved
Page 2 of 2
distinction and high grades at the core MSc courses, and passed honourably several
extracurricular courses such as the Bloomberg Essentials Course. Moreover, I have
volunteered for several societies and activities including being a Student Academic
Representative – activities that I found extremely valuable, helping me get in touch
with finance professionals and colleagues from all over the world.
As my MSc Study is coming to a successful end, I am looking forward to
joining a multinational financial institution to pursue the career I chose in credit
analysis, banking and finance and achieve personal and corporate goals in a peaceful
world that respects human rights and works towards economic prosperity for
everyone.
