What’s
Bacteria
3. What is a
Bacteria?
Bacteria are small single-celled organism. Bacteria are
found almost everywhere on Earth and are viral to the
planet’s ecosystems. Some speicies can live under
extreme conditions of temperature and presseure. The
human body is full bacteria, an in fact is estimated to
contain more bacterial cells than human cells.
BACTERIA
4. Types of Bacteria
Bacteria are classified into five groups according to their basic shapes:
1. Spherical (cocci): It cause of many skin infections and throat
infections
5. Types of Bacteria
Bacteria are classified into five groups according to their basic shapes:
2. Rod (bacilli):These infections are found in patients with weakened
immunity.
6. Types of Bacteria
Bacteria are classified into five groups according to their basic shapes:
3.spiral (spirilla):causes a type of rat-bite fever in man.
7. Types of Bacteria
Bacteria are classified into five groups according to their basic shapes:
4. Comma (vibrios):cause foodborne infection, usually associated with eating
undercooked seafood.
8. Types of Bacteria
Bacteria are classified into five groups according to their basic shapes:
5. Corkscrew (spirochaetes): are characteristically found in a liquid
environment (e.g., mud and water, blood and lymph).
9. Bacteria in food
● This bacteria in food definition encompasses both negative
and positive contributions of the microorganisms. Bacteria that
can be used to alter or improve the characteristics of food or
other products are known to be beneficial. On the other hand,
those that can cause foodborne diseases and other
detrimental effects are often called pathogenic bacteria. We
may consider this group as the bad bacteria.
10. Methods of cooking that kills
bacteria
● At 100°C (or 212°F), water boils. Above 74°C (or 165°F), bacteria die, although spores
and toxins may survive. Food that is being cooked or reheated should hit 74°C (or
165°F). You can hold hot food for service at 60°C (or 140°F).
● Bacteria can also die in higly acidic environments like pickle juice.Vinegar in pickle
juice is a powerful disinfectant and kills harmful germs and bacteria. Dill also has
antibacterial properties, and in combination with vinegar
