“I don’t go by the rule book. I lead from
the heart not the head”
-Lady Diana-
Life History
• An iconic figure of the late 20th Century.
• Born on 1 July 1961
• Diana was born to an aristocratic family with links
to the Royal Family.
• Her father was Edward Spencer, Viscount Althorp.
• Edward Spencer was a direct descendant of
Charles II.
• Her mother was Frances Viscountess Althorp and
was distantly related with the Queen Mother; she
was also of American descent.
• Diana’s parents divorced with her father
winning a bitter battle for custody of the
children.
• She was 7 at the time
• Diana grew up in the family home of Park
House, before moving to Althorp in 1975.
• Diana did not shine as a student, but did
well in music and ballet.
• When she met her future husband, Charles,
Diana was working as a part time assistant
in a nursery school in London
• In 1981, Diana married Prince Charles.
• Diana aged just 20 – Charles by contrast was 33 at the time
of the wedding.
• The general public soon warmed to the innocence and beauty
of Princess Diana, and the wedding was watched by over 1
billion people world wide.
“If you find someone you love in
your life, then hang on to that Love”
-Diana,
Princess of Wales-
• During their marriage they had
two sons, Prince William and
Prince Harry.
• Diana was a very devoted mother
and chose everything in their lives,
from schooling to clothes to public
things.
• Her public duties came after her
children.
• However, in the mid 1980s, strains
started to appear in the marriage,
and under much publicity the
marriage broke up leading to a
divorce in 1992.
• When asked what she had to do with
the separation she replied
“Well there was three of us in this
marriage, so it was a bit crowded”
Princess Diana
Was So Much More
Than A Style Icon
“The biggest disease the world suffers from in
this day and age is the disease of people feeling
unloved”
-Princess Diana-
Princess Diana captured the
world's attention as a royal
trendsetter, but during her time in
the public eye, she also became a
prominent philanthropic force.
Diana worked tirelessly on behalf
of charities around the world,
using her fame to raise awareness
of a number of important
humanitarian issues
Bill Clinton once said
“In 1987, when so many still believed that
AIDS could be contracted through casual
contact, princess Diana sat on the sickbed
of a man with AIDS and held his hand. She
showed the world that people with AIDS
deserve not isolation, but compassion and
kindness. It helped change the world’s
opinion and gave hope to people with
AIDS.”
Through her charity work,
Diana highlighted how royalty,
which had previously been
known for its stuffiness, could
be in touch with the public. In
her interview with BBC's
Panorama in 1995, she said,
"I would like a monarchy that
has more contact with its
people."
Like her AIDS efforts, Diana traveled to countries with a high
leprosy rate in order to remove the stigma surrounding the
disease. As patron of The Leprosy Mission, she visited hospitals
in India, Nepal and Zimbabwe and by spending time with
patients, she dispelled one of the myths surrounding the
illness—that it can be passed on by touch. she said of the
disease.
“It has always been my concern to touch people with leprosy,
trying to show in a simple action that they are not reviled, nor
are we repulsed,"
Despite relinquishing most of her
charitable causes after her divorce
from Prince Charles in 1996,
Diana became patron of
Centrepoint in 1992 and remained
in the role until her death in
1997. Both William and Harry
were taken by the Princess to see
the help offered at the charity’s
shelters and, at the age of 23,
William followed in his mother’s
footsteps when he became patron
Diana displayed a great affinity for
young people and became a
champion for some the most
vulnerable. As patron of The Royal
Marsden Hospital, known for
treating childhood cancers, and
Great Ormand Street Hospital for
Children, she was often pictured
comforting children and made a
personal connection with many.
Personal Problems
• Apart from her marital problems,
Princess Diana’s primary struggle
was Bulimia, an emotional eating
disorder.
• Diana believed that the cause for her
eating disorder was the emptiness
she felt in her marriage to Prince
Charles, not her own insecurities as
the royal family assumed.
As Diana was suffering from Bulimia, she was seen by the royal
family as unstable and temperamental, and felt more an outcast
then ever Princess Diana spoke her innermost feelings to a
reporter
“I think that the biggest disease is the disease of feeling
unloved. I know that I can love for a minute, for half an hour,
for a day, for a month, but I can give. I am very happy to do
that. I want to do that.”
“Everyone needs to be valued. Everyone has the
potential
To give something back”
-Lady Diana-
Sudden Death
• Diana was killed August 31, 1997 in a car
crash in Paris.
• Blood testing showed that the driver Henry
Paul was drunk with nearly three times the
legal French limit.
• Since her death there have been many
theories surrounding her death.
• Although none have been proved true. One of
the most well known ideas is that her death
was planned by M16( British Intelligence
Services).
• Her funeral was watched by an estimated 2.5
billion people worldwide.
“I am a free spirit. Some don’t like that
But that’s who I am”
-Lady Diana-
Resilience
• Diana had a difficult childhood due to her parent’s
divorce but she adjusted in a healthy way. She
was good at communication and got to work on
her interests.
• Regardless of the fact that she was a princess, she
never got the importance and love from the royal
family and her husband cheated on her with
another woman. She could have let all that affect
her in a worst way but she “bounced back” and
showed the world that she is a true princess.
Realistic Optimism
• Diana was very well aware of her problems and
she didn’t go in denial.
• She showed realistic optimism and worked on
what she could.
• She wasn’t a royal anymore after her divorce
but she still was famous and loved by people, so
she used her fame to help people in need.
• She knew that she will have to be a role model
for her children.
• She was a devoted mother and tried her best to
raise her sons in the best way possible.
Self Actualization
• Lady Diana accepted her true self and despite
the controversies about her attitude and love
life, she didn’t try to change herself into what
she was not.
• She followed her own path and didn’t let culture
or society affect her decisions in any way.
• She worked towards her goals and spread love
despite her harsh experiences.
• From a princess who always followed royal dress
code, she became a princess who no longer
cared about the dress code and wore what she
wanted to wear.
“Only do what your hearts
tells you”
-Lady Diana-
Fully Functioning Person
• Lady Diana was a Fully functioning person
because she lived in harmony with her
deepest feelings.
• There are five characteristics of a fully
functioning person and we can surely say
that she had these characteristics
 Openness to experience
 Living in the moment
 Trusting in one’s own gut feeling
 A sense of freedom
 Enhanced creativity
Locus of Control
Despite of feeling empty from
inside, not receiving love
from loved ones, being
cheated on, was seen by
royal family unstable and
temperamental she believed
that she has power over
events in her life and can
influence events and their
outcomes, she did so and
succeeded. She didn’t let her
fate and environment to
control her life
Forgiveness
According to one of
Diana’s friend ,she
forgave prince Charles
and Camila and she said
that she still cares for
Charles but she is not in
love with him anymore
Conclusion
• Bravery and courage.
• Work on improving your self.
• Living on your own terms.
• Don’t be afraid of love.
• Traditions can be broken.
• Stand up for people who can not
stand up for themselves.
