1. Artist Statement: Miller Joyner
I have dedicated my life to creating music from my experiences as well as others.
I set forth to produce the purest form of art by capturing unique situations that coalesce
with the human experience. With the ability to recognize the flow of energy, I aspire to
connect my audience with the purest forms of emotion. This enables me to focus from
an audience’s perspective as well as a performer’s, enabling me to grow on both sides
of the stage. This gives me with the insight I need to connect with an audience in a
unique way.
Performing music allows me to express myself freely and consciously,
connecting my body, mind, and spirit. This enables me to link with my instrument,
bestowing a mastery within my musical language. When I play, I focus on the music and
how it makes people feel, committing all of my energy to teach and influence people in a
way that they have taught me. There is much to learn when a crowd is moved by a
performance. This inspires me to become a larger, more positive figure in the artist
community so I can move people while playing music.
I am constantly playing music, and each performance has something new to
offer. I have learned the value of spontaneous energy. When performing, I am
constantly collecting emotions in the air and projecting it back through music. Collecting
spontaneous bits of information from the crowd’s reaction and then immediately
communicating that information back to the crowd creates a true connection with
audience, generating an unpremeditated moment that is unique and finite to that exact
moment. This is how I tell the audience that I am listening to them just as much as they
are listening me. I believe an enduring connection between the audience and the artist
develops communion in the atmosphere, and that is what brings truth to music.
