• You have learned all polite form and plain form. Do you remember all
of them?
• Do you remember how to conjugate both verbs and adjectives into
various plain forms?
• You can use plain forms in casual conversations.
• When it is an interrogative sentence, you raise the end.
• あした、パーティーに行く?
• あした、パーティーに行くか。
• そのアイスクリーム、おいしい?
• そのアイスクリーム、おいしいか。
あした、どこに行くか。(you can’t add か with interrogative)
22. ワン: Did you go anywhere during the summer holiday?
さくら: Yes, I went to Italy with my family. After that, I did camping all together with my friends in Sweden too.
ワン: Italy and Sweden? Sounds good. Was the summer holiday long?
さくら: Yes, because I had one month, I went (these places) for one week each (ずつ).
ワン: But, can you speak Italian and Swedish?
さくら: No, because I can’t speak these languages, I had a hard time at the beginning.
ワン: For example?
さくら: I decided to camp because commodity prices are expensive in Sweden, but I had to walk 20 mins
because toilets were broken (故障しています). Moreover, I couldn’t explain to Swedish (people)
because I don’t understand their language.
ワン: That was hard. No-one repaired toilets?
さくら: No, everyone was off (holiday) because it was just on (ちょうど) weekend. Did you go anywhere?
ワン: Yes, I went to the Lake district (湖水地方). First day was raining but the rest was good weather. I saw
lakes and went to the Beatrix Potter museum. It was fun. Actually, I wanted to go to Egypt but it was
difficult to get a visa so I couldn’t go. It was a shame.
さくら: Really. It was a shame, wasn’t it? Summer holiday is over soon. Did you do your homework?
ワン: No, not yet. What shall I do…..
さくら: I haven’t done them yet too, so shall we do together if you like?
ワン: Sounds good. I will be waiting at the library tomorrow morning.
さくら: Yes, got it. See you.
ワン: Yes, see you.
