Bio
I am seeking a position in a lab-environment as a post-baccalaureate researcher and/or lab
technician. I graduated five years ago after conducting undergraduate research in a lab
for two years. I was accepted to and enrolled in a Departmental Scholar’s program for a
Master’s in Biochemistry at UCLA, which I was unable to complete due to family
concerns: my father was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s Disease. I moved back home to
take time off from school and help my mother and him cope with the situation. After
some time off to reflect, I found odd-jobs and part-time work; I am currently substitute
teaching.
Education
University of California, Los Angeles.
2008 2012. Bachelor’s of Science in Chemistry. GPA: 3.385
Cerro Coso Community College.
2004 2008. Associates of Science in General Studies. GPA: N/A
Research
UCLA
2009 2012. Undergraduate Research in Dr. Joan S. Valentine Lab. For two years, I conducted
research under mentorship of a PhD student in a lab that investigated the link between
mutations in Superoxide Dismutase enzymes and Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis. I
cloned a mutant variant of Drosophila melanogaster Manganese Superoxide Dismutase.
2008 2009. Undergraduate Research in Dr. Stephen Shoptaw Group. For one year, I
investigated socioeconomic factors in relation to comorbid intravenous drug use in
HIV-positive men in Los Angeles, as part of an NIH-funded cohort study initiated in the
1980s.
Cerro Coso Community College
2008. Undergraduate Research under guidance of Dr. Claudia Sellers. We investigated possible
risk-factors for contraction of Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus Aureus (MRSA) in
local populations.
Teaching Experience

2015 Present. I have been substitute teaching in K-12 classrooms for the last year and a half. I
started in a small community where I grew up, then I moved to LA to begin teaching in
inner-city classrooms in August, 2016. I have taught in most subjects, ranging from
elementary to high-school Advanced Placement courses. I have managed several
classrooms in temporary, long-term assignments, and I have taught in classrooms for
at-risk children and those with special needs.
UCLA
2011, Spring and Summer quarters. In the Spring quarter, I was a Teacher’s Aide for an
inorganic biochemistry course, in which I managed an online essay submission system

held my own discussion sections, office hours, and test-reviews; and I answered emails,
proctored, and graded tests and homework.
