RESEARCHEXPERIENCE
2015 – Present Neuroendocrinology Laboratory, London, ON
University of Western Ontario
Ph.D. Student
• As a clinical psychology doctoral student,my research in the
neuroendocrinology lab is centered on the interplay between hormones,
cognition, and affect.
• In particular, I am currently interested in examining hormonal activity
associated with the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis and the
reproductive system inboth healthy and depressed pregnant women.
2013 –2015 Personality and Emotion Development Laboratory, London, ON
University of Western Ontario
M.Sc. Student
• In the summer of 2013, I volunteered with the Personality and Emotion
Development Lab, prior to starting my masters. Here, I was involved in
coding affect and temperament in videos of 5-year-old children, as part of
an ongoing longitudinal study of temperamental vulnerabilities for
depression. As well, I recruited mother-daughter dyads for a follow-up
study of the impact of chronic life stress, as indexed by hair cortisol levels.
• In my first year, Ianalyzed the hair cortisol data for my Master’s thesis.
Additionally, I was involved in coding affect, behavioural inhibition, and
quality of parenting in 5-year-olds.
• In my second year, I worked with lab mates to collect our third wave of
follow-up data in our longitudinal study of child temperament. In an
additional project, I explored the links between children’s salivary cortisol
and behavioural inhibition in 3-year-olds. Lastly, I initiated aproject to
identify distinct patterns of cortisol reactivity to stress in early childhood,
with implications for understanding developing risk for internalizing
disorders.
2011 – 2013 Cognitive and Psychotic Disorders Laboratory, Kingston, ON
Queen's University
Research Assistant/Honours Thesis Student
• As a volunteer, I transcribed clinical interviews between a clinician and
inpatients and for a study of formal thought disorder. Additionally, I acted
as a confederate in a study of social mimicry and depressive symptoms.
• In the summer of 2012, I worked as a paid RA. In this position, I conducted
neurocognitive assessments of outpatients with a variety of diagnoses. As
well, I coded communication disturbances in transcribed interviews, as part
of a project examining Formal Thought Disorder in inpatients. I was also
involved in coding prosocial behaviours of individuals with schizophrenia
as they engaged in conversation, as part of a project designed to encourage
emotional expression in people with schizophrenia. Lastly, I helped
conduct an eye tracking study that examined how individuals with
schizophrenia complete the Wisconsin Card Sorting Task.
• In my final year of undergrad, I worked in the CPD lab as an honours thesis
student. My thesis examineddifferent methods of measuring stigmatizing
attitudes towards schizophrenia, and the relative contributions of the
symptoms and diagnostic label of schizophrenia to individuals’ reactions.
As well, I continued to run participants for our eye tracking study.
2010 – 2013 Infant Cognition Group, Kingston, ON
Queen's University
Research Assistant/Summer Intern
• As a volunteer, I recruited and scheduled participants for studies. As well, I
assisted in running experiments of infant’s understandings of other’s
intentions by coding infant looking time, or by acting as a puppeteer.
• In my third year, I worked in the ICG lab as a directed lab student for
academic credit. In the fall of 2011, I was given the opportunity to become
involved in most of the lab's projects. In my second directed lab, I
collaborated with a graduate student to design and conduct an experiment
examining the development of in-group biases in children.
• In the summer of 2012, I worked in the ICG lab as a summer intern. In this
position, I assisted in running various experiments. In particular, I ran
participants in my study of in-group bias development, and continued to do
so in my fourth year at Queen’s.
