In the mobile age, "Mobile Literacy" replaces general "Computer Literacy". The focus is on effective use of a mobile device in an online internet connected world. Many users are mobile only, having no PC or Laptop at their disposal.
In many scenarios, mobile only users live in precarious socio-economic conditions. This presentation addresses the use of mobile devices as a means to support users as they educate themselves, improve their work chances, optimise the use of meagre financial resources and consider security in a digital world.

Discuss Access to Online Portal
Discuss Assessment Process and Certification
Editor's Notes
Discuss concept of substitution. Same task with different tool.
Beyond a phone. Why do we use Smartphone we choose to use? Is it a status item, or do we consider choice based on functionality?
Discuss this based on “Stuff In There” and Stuff Out There” examples. “Stuff in There” includes what was one the Smartphone when acquired (Yellow). “Stuff Out There” includes all applications that can be found, downloaded and installed from application stores (Blue).
Focus on progressing from Standalone, through Cellular Service Dependency to Internet Service Dependency. Use examples to highlight why applications are classified as they are.
Show how functionality is enhanced when Applications integrate with each other and use each other’s services. Share examples of this – location aware applications, contacts underpinning email and WhatsApp, Clock timers and Media player etc.
Give examples of applications and their alignment with business activities. Note and clarify the classification as standalone, cellular service dependent and internet service dependent applications.
Have participants discuss their use of specific applications, their perceptions of usability, value and usefulness.
This sets the scene for the exercises to follow, excluding the Buy / Sell activity area.
