2. Print
• For print media in the dragon ball franchise there is a very long
running series of Manga for the series which is the Japanese
equivalent for a comic book set, which started in December 1984 and
is still going strong in the current year, despite a hiatus from the series
to sequel from January 1996 to June 2015. June 2015 being the
release of this new series of dragon ball which continues beyond this
day
• The specifics for the print media and primary for the franchise were:
Dragon ball, Which included the anime sequel series under the same
title and Dragon Ball super which is the next step for the series.
3. TV
• In terms of releases for TV, this would serve as the most popular for the dragon ball franchises
and would consist completely of few specials and 3 series'. There is the original series, Dragon Ball
which was released in February 1986 and ended in April 1989.
• There was then the sequel series released for the dragon ball franchise called Dragon ball z, this
was released right after the end of dragon ball being released in April of 1989 and ending
January of 1996.
• There was then a hiatus for the series which like the manga, the anime continued this new sequel
series called Dragon ball super being released in July of 2015 and while now currently on hiatus, is
continuing in 2019.
• There was one exclusive series that aired and was not made into a manga which would be a
revised version of Dragon ball z, Called dragon ball z Kai being a redubbed and reanimated version
of the anime which would air from 2009 and finish in 2014 after a 3 year hiatus from 2011.
• One series in particular that is considered non-canonical to the series, and didn’t directly involve
series creator Akira Toriyama is a series called Dragon Ball GT and would go on from February
1996 to November 1997, however the inclusion of this series has always been questionable due
to the fact it had no manga counterpart too making this somewhat of a spinoff series as opposed
to a true sequel like how dragon ball super took over years later.
4. Games
• In regards to games for the series there are simply too many too find and include however I will include
those that are more recent and impactful towards the series.
• Starting from the 1980s there were games based on the original series, in total 4, none of which were
significant besides the fact it launched dragon ball into the gaming media sector.
• In the years of the 90's there were 21 games created with the only significant set being the Super butoden
games due to their consistency they would carry out for many years to come, otherwise there was no
significance to these years besides the fact that there were a lot of dragon ball games created showing the
popularity skyrocketing and the demand being very high for dragon ball. The 90s were also significant due to
the release of dragon ball games outside of japan.
• In the 2000's there were 12 total games made with the only major significants of these years being that the
Funimation cast took over primary casting for dragon ball games and that ownership of the games and who
was creating them had firmly been taken by atari to Bandai Namco which would stay as the primary game
makers for Dragon ball continuing contractually beyond the current year.
• As of the 2010s there has so far been a grand total of 11 with one to be released for 2019 but there have
been no major changes throughout these years besides the fact that the years arent over, but Bandai Namco
is still licensing the games and Dragon ball games have been only increasing exponentially throughout the
years and only growing.
5. Cinematic
• In terms of cinema releases there has been in total for each series: 4 for the
original dragon ball movies: Curse of the blood rubies, Path to power, Mystical
adventure and Sleeping princess in a devils castle.
• For the Dragon Ball Z series things had started to pick up incredibly and are what
majority of viewers come to think of, with there being 15 in total Dragon ball Z
movies being Dragon ball Z movie: Dead Zone(1989), The Worlds Strongest(1990),
The Tree of Might(1990), Lord Slug(1991), Coolers Revenge(1991), Return of
Cooler(1992), Super Android 13(1992), Broly the Legendary Super Saiyan(1993),
Bojack Unbound(1993), Broly the second coming(1994), Bio-Broly(1994), Fusion
Reborn(1995), Wrath of the Dragon(1995), Battle of the Gods(2013), Ressurection
of 'F'(2015).
• As of the franchise continuing with a different name but the same continuity so
far there has only been one movie made which is by far the most popular and
easily has made the most money. Dragon Ball Super Broly(2018) being the most
recent in november 14th.
