3. CARE E R PATH
David Guttenfleder was born in Iowa and graduated from the University of Iowa with his
B.A in cultural anthropology, African studies and journalism made it is goal and life mission to
photojournalism by focusing on global geopolitics and conservation, he spent most of his career
working and saying outside of the United States. He started of his career by freelancing and that
took him to East African while there he studied the native language which is Swahili, he went to
the University of Dar es Salaam in Tanzania. He worked for the National Geographic and a
fellow, worked over seas and for the AP for 20 years, he worked for the AP (Associated Press)
which in that time he was stationed in Nairobi, he been to Abidjan New Delhi, Jerusalem and
Tokyo. He covered war in over 75 countries, he helped the AP gain access to North Korea and
helped a news station in North Korea most western new crew has ever been allowed.

He has spent decades capturing and reporting the news of the
world and spent most of his life over seas, recently in 2013 he decided
to come back home and continue is career here in the united states.
5. MOTIVATION
He was first interested in taking pictures when his grandfather an insurance sale
person bought him his first polaroid camera, that gave him the sight to what he
wanted to do with his lifer
he also wanted to report what is going on around the world and he wanted to travel

6. E THICS
David’s ethic was to report the news as accurate as he see it and
also to capture on film with his camera as well, telling the truth and
allowing his viewers to see the truth was really important to his and
his career.
7. TE CHNOL OGY
At the beginning of his career he used a black and white film
camera it was the panoramic camera.
He also use to carry around a polaroid camera with him at all times
In the last cupole of years he has been using his Iphone as his
camera
8. BIAS
It seem that most of his photo capture the moment of pain and
trails of people at the most down time and the imperfections of
people good or bad.

I chose four images that stands out because they don’t look like
they we told to pose that way they all in their natural element he took
these images as they where happening. The exposure tends to be
more dramatic and intense in his photographs.

14. I M PA C T
David is an ward-winning photojournalist who has covered news from
East African Afghanistan, North Korea and most recently here in the
United States, when asked what has impact him the most he states that "I
think we all have the compulsion to interact with the world in some way, to do something
with our experience whether it's to write in a journal or paint something"

15. M Y M A J O R AT A I C
I chose David Guttenfleder because I felt that the work he did over
seas was wonderful the inspiration to a whole new generations of inspired
photojournalist, and hope to continue in his footsteps
Here at AIC my major is in Human Services, my chosen profession is
trying to help children, families youth to live in their communities and
function in a normal setting as possible, although I like his work and what
he a spire to do I feel that both our fields are not related.
16. VIEWPOINT
David Guttenfelder has been viewed as one of the greatest photojournalist of
his time according to the national geographic “Guttenfelder is a seven-time World
Press Photo Award winner. He is the 2013 ICP Infinity Prize winner for
photojournalism and a winner of the Overseas Press Club of America John Faber,
Olivier Rebbot, and Feature Photography awards. Pictures of the Year International
and the NPPA have named him Photojournalist of the Year. He was short-listed for
the National Magazine Award for public interest in 2014. He is a seven-time finalist
for the Pulitzer Prize”.
