What isit?
The large enterprisesegmentisgoingthroughalarge change in no small partto the adoptionof VoIP
and UC basedarchitecture. Previouslythe traditional audioconferencing customerwouldbe aa series
of thousandsof sitesthatexistasislands.Todaythese large enterpriseshave eithercompletedorare
goingthrougha consolidationof theirnetworkintoa tandem-stylenetworksrepresentedasregional
datacenters.Typically, these datacentersare linkedtousviaPSTN (toll-free,direct-in-dial,andoutbound
calls) or viadirectconnections.
Bridge ina Box isto overlaythe “fabric”of the [Redacted] multi-medianetworkoverthese datacenters
extendingoursolutionstothese customers.

5. The Pros / Cons:
Pros:
1. ControlledandSecure
a. Fraud control;the solutionwillblockhighfraudcountrycodesandnumberspreventing
the fraud before itoccurs
i. The SBC wouldnow be filteringall longdistance traffic
b. Mediais keptwithinthe firewallsof Dell
c. Keepinginside the Dellnetworkallowsforpacketloss,jitter,andlatencymonitoring
(builtinsidethe virtual SBC)
i. Thiscouldfeedintothe new NetScore systemandcreate automatedreportsto
the customeron performance.
2. Growth
a. WebRTCto SIP interworking
b. AllowsDell toexplore the abilitytointroduce yourownClass4 tandem
i. (Meansyoucan control yourlongdistance usage betweenonnetandoff net
and evenbetweencarriers
c. VPN andinterworking
i. Allowsthe Lyncnetworktotalkto legacyvoice platformswithinDell without
forcingeitherplatformtoinnovate (i.e.dial plans)
ii. There are solutionsthatwouldallow simultaneousringtolegacyplatformand
Lync
d. Videointerworking
i. Thisplatformcan interworkatthe sipand H.323 level forvideowithinthe Dell
network…while videowill passthrough(non-translating) Call AdmissionControl

3. Transcoding
a. You can interworkwithdifferentaudiocodecs;i.e.G.711and G.729a or b
i. WithinG.711 (relevantforMNCs) G.711 has 2 versionsandthissolutionwill

ii. webRTCOpusto wirelessorwirelessaudiocodecs
4. No Trustedapplicationserverinvolvement
5. LeveragesexistingLynccall flow
6. [Redacted]’sLongDistance ratesare betterthan90% of the enterprisesoutthere soif youput

8. Lastly, as an enhancement to Acano:
How doesthe combinedsolutionwork? Whatwill Sonusdoandwhatwill
Acanodo?
The SBC will, inessence, provideall the edge securityandencryption
functionalitytoprotectthe networkagainstDoS/DDoSattacks. The Sonus
SBC will applyACLs,Policers,encryptionandscalabilitybyfront-endingall
the voice, videoandIM&Psessions. Sonuswill alsoprovide the Firewall NAT
traversal functionalityviaICE/STUN forvideoandvoice usersoutside of the
private network. Because of the Sonusplatformarchitecture andscalability,
our SBCsmake the entire solutionmore costeffective –youcan support
more sessionswhileusingfewerservers.
Acanoin thisdeploymenthandlesall the UCvideoandIM&P sessiontraffic
comingfromthe SonusSBCs. The Acanoplatformwill performall the UC
videoandIM&P interworkingandtranscodingneededonthose sessionsas
well ascollaborationInterworking(desktopsharing).
• Video Interworking
- Signaling and Media interworking (SIP to 323 Video calls)
- Content Sharing and FECC Interworking (BFCP to H239)
• Firewall NAT traversal
• BW and CAC policy admission
• Authentication, Security and encryption
• Protect multimedia/UC services from DOS attack and overload
• High Availability
• Assured Performance and Scale
• FIPS and JITC Certification
The Sonus solution
9. However, there is a real requirement for video transcoding services, Lync video
interworking and broader Instant Messaging and Presence (IM&P) for full Unified
Communication (UC) services in our customer base. When this broader set of UC
functionality is required Sonus recommends and has partnered with Acano. Acano is
solely focused on bringing together previously incompatible audio, video and web
technologies into virtual meeting rooms.
The Acano partnership provides a compelling solution in the UC and video communication
interoperability markets:
• Full UC Conferencing capacity
- voice, video, IM&P, and collaboration
• Skype for Business interoperability with known video-conferencing/telepresenceassets
• Full UC Content Sharing and FECC interworking
- BFCP-to- H239-to-RDP*-to-WebRTC
• Seamless Lync/ S4B invite work-flow
• Video transcoding
• Geo-distributed conferencing platform
• FIPS and JITC Certification
* RDP=Remote desktop Protocol thatMS Lync uses
10.
11. Lastly, itis importanttonote that there are benefitstohavingthissolutiononthe customers’premise,
that deploymentmodeliscertainlynotrequired. The BiBsolutioncansitinside [Redacted] asa managed
service.
