2. What Was the Problem?
The social services team in Inverness wanted to
let communities know about self directed
support and the opportunities it can provide
for organisations and individuals. They also
wanted to get a clear understanding of what
services were available in communities in the
Highlands and to encourage communities to
look at filling any gaps themselves.

3. What Did I Do?
Working with the social services team we decided
to make this a broader community event. We also
decided to publicise the event without social
services details so that people came along for the
content itself. We introduced a broad programme
which included local and national speakers.
Speakers were briefed to keep presentations very
short - no more than 10 minutes and to use a
case study format. I worked with the facilitator
and main speaker to ensure the content fitted
with the programme and the objectives of the
event.

4. What Did I Achieve?
• Working with the facilitator we introduced an
8 day challenge so that people took action
after the event. This has been followed up
regularly with area events.
• 95% of the attendees completing feedback (45
out of 80) said the event was very beneficial.
We also had comments of "best event like this
I have been to" and "can we have another one
next year".
