ONE MILLION SIGNATURE TO HAVE A LAW REFORM ON ABORTION
It was a complete month of intensive preparation for the launch of a social
media campaign and video dubbed LetHerSpeak;Because every woman and
girl counts, as well as 'The One Million Signature campaign' that will have
different partners, friends and likeminded individuals sign on a petition to
have law reform on abortion in Uganda. The signatures will be presented to
the 10th Parliament next year and by this time, 1million signatures should be
collected. #LetHerSpeak campaign went viral on September 28th which is also
the global day of Action for Access to safe and Legal Abortion, with the theme
that trended with a harsh tag: 'Burst the myth' to enlighten about the myths
on abortion. After 28th September, more activities were identified to move
forward the campaign on legal reform on a abortion and one of them is the
online petition that everyone is called upon to sign with 50 signatures so far.

ACCESS TO MEDICINES: CEHURD SPEAR HEADING
ADVOCACY
After acknowledging the need to have essential
medicines accessible to all who need it in Uganda,
CEHURD in collaboration with HEPS felt the need to
advocate along these lines, hence the access to
medicine dialogue that had; pharmacists, civil society,
government officials, medical stores and drug
distribution companies, media and ordinary citizens
share information on how best access to medicine can
be improved in our county while highlighting key action
areas to be improved and addressed by stake holders.

Friday 2nd October 2015 was not just any ordinary monthly staff meeting at CEHURD, this is not because it
was a half day intense meeting, to report on progress of activities as well as give accountabilities for the
pending ones, but for the engagements that followed after which included; visiting the permanent home for
CEHURD which is being constructed in Gayaza; a three storied state of the art building that will give more
space, glamour and professionalism to reflect the work CEHURD upholds on a daily and more space to
accommodate its clients. After the site visit, staff were treated to an evening workout and luncheon that
created an opportunity to share and interact, out of office as well as reflect on career and personal growth.
All this was due to the vision and plan made by the CEHURD senior management team that has growth and
development of the organisation and its staff at heart. Kudos CEHURD Management.
As one of the core areas of focus, CEHURD
provides free legal support to communities
and individuals faced with health human
rights injustice. The free legal support known
as 'Probono' led to the creation of 'Legal
Support Network( LSN) ' which is a team of
lawyers passionate about health rights
especially sexual and reproductive health, to
work with CEHURD in order to push forward
this agenda to support the communities.
These lawyers volunteer their time and services to the community and
different individuals. CEHURD took up the mandate to bring together this
team, build its capacity on the different health issues and provides resources
for them to swiftly carry on this task, under an agreed MOU that was
finalised with the lawyers on 30th September 2015 at Protea Hotel.
