Hi, I look forward to getting to know
each of you and being part of your
learning this semester! My background
is in Computer Science education,
Maker Spaces, and Special Education. I
taught high school in NYC, and have
also been a curriculum developer and
instructional coach. I am currently
pursuing my Ph.D studying CS teacher
preparation and teaching CS to
students with disabilities. When I used
to have spare time, I liked to play video
games, especially RPGs, now I spend
any free time playing with, and
wrangling, my 4 year old.

5. Course Policies
Submitting Work
Submit work on time. This course is fast-paced and most of
your grade comes from weekly participation. If you avoid
falling behind, it will save your stress and raise your grade.
Attending Class
Be on time and come to every class so that you don't miss
any graded discussions or activities.
Asking for Extensions
Ask for extensions in advance. You don't lose any points for
using extensions.
Requesting Make-Up Work
If you have to miss part or all of a class, arrange
asynchronous work in advance. Missing more than one class
may affect your grade.
6. Course Policies
Raising Your Grades
You have the option to revise any major assignment for a higher
grade. Weekly discussions/assignments can't be revised, but the first
2 weeks will be graded on participation only so that you have time to
incorporate feedback.
Finding Course Info
All of the course information will be available on Blackboard
or sent through your City Tech email. I encourage you to
check both regularly.
Technical Issues
You will never be penalized for technical access or issues, but you are
responsible for troubleshooting them. If you need access to a
computer or wifi or if you run into problems with digital tools, you are
welcome to reach out to me so that we can problem solve together.
Communicating with Your Professor
Ask for help and communicate your needs. I am here to guide you
through this learning experience, but I can't help if I don't know what
you need. I try to be responsive to your feedback throughout the
semester.
7. If it's an emergency contact me as
soon as you are able.
Do email or text me before
the due date.
Include how long you need and
commit to a specific date when
you will submit the work.
Be sure to submit your work by that
date!
Look for an email approving the
extension and confirming or
changing the new due date.
All extensions requested ahead of
time, will be approved.
I am available if you need to talk,
but you don't need to share anything
that you don't want to.
You don't need to explain
yourself.
If you have multiple extensions, I
may request a meeting to co-plan a
realistic schedule for completing
your work.
Try not to fall behind
Ghosting doesn't work
How to Ask for an
Extension
It's always better to reach out and
let me know if you can't turn
something in.

10. Statement on Students with Disabilities:
TL:DR: If you have disability, you can go to room A-237 to register. If you have a
letter, you can share it with me. I have to keep it confidential.
Qualified students with disabilities will be provided reasonable academic
accommodations if determined eligible by the Office of Students Support
Services (OSSS). Prior to granting a disability accommodation in this course, the
instructor must receive written verification of a student’s eligibility from OSSS,
which is located in Room A-237. It is the student’s responsibility to initiate
contact with the OSSS staff and to follow the established procedures for having
the accommodation notice sent to the instructor.
Accessibility
I believe that accessibility matters for all of us. You may
have a job, be a parent, have a disability, or just be dealing
with life. If there is something that would make this course
more accessible for you, please let me know. If you
encounter a barrier to your learning, it's likely other
students are too. My commitment to you is to work with you
to meet your needs in a way that is equitable, accessible, and
inclusive.
11. Integrity Policy
WHAT TO DO WHAT NOT TO
DO
WHAT IF I'M
NOT SURE?
•When you use
something that you
didn't make, include a
link or citation to the
source
•Write your own
papers, create your
own projects
•Share ideas and
feedback
•Do not copy/paste
from the internet (or
anywhere else)
•Do not turn in a paper
that you wrote for
something else
•Do not use someone
else's answers
•If you find material
that you want to use
in an assignment, but
aren't sure if it's ok to
use, it's ok to ask.
•No question is bad or
silly. I'm here to help
you develop as an
educator and scholar.
12. New York City College of Technology Academic Integrity Policy: Students and all
others who work with information, ideas, texts, images, music, inventions, and
other intellectual property owe their audiences and sources accuracy and
honesty in using, crediting, and citing sources. As a community of intellectual
and professional workers, the College recognizes its responsibility for providing
instruction in information literacy and academic integrity, offering models of
good practice, and responding vigilantly and appropriately to infractions of
academic integrity. Accordingly, academic dishonesty is prohibited in The City
University of New York and at New York City College of Technology and is
punishable by penalties, including failing grades, suspension, and expulsion. The
complete text of the Policy on Academic Integrity may be found in the catalog.
TL:DR - Violating the college integrity policy is a big deal. It
can get you kicked out or get your degree taken away. So if
you're not sure ask!
