SDG 2, or Sustainable Development Goal 2, is one of the seventeen global goals established by the United Nations in 2015 to achieve a sustainable future for all. SDG 2 aims to end hunger, achieve food security, improve nutrition, and promote sustainable agriculture. The goal recognizes that despite significant progress in reducing hunger over the past few decades, over 690 million people still suffer from chronic hunger worldwide, and approximately 2 billion people lack access to safe, nutritious, and sufficient food. Achieving food security and adequate nutrition is not only essential to reducing poverty but also to promoting economic growth and sustainable development. To achieve SDG 2, countries need to invest in sustainable agriculture, improve infrastructure and technology for food production, and support small-scale farmers. They also need to promote food diversity and adequate nutrition through education, policies, and programs that focus on improving maternal and child health, reducing malnutrition, and increasing access to safe and nutritious food for all. Ultimately, the success of SDG 2 will require the collaboration and cooperation of governments, civil society, private sector actors, and individuals worldwide to ensure that no one is left behind in the quest for a world without hunger and malnutrition.
