ExpectMore from Robson Valley
Debbie Strang, Health Service Administrator, lives in stunning
Robson Valley. Debbie enjoys living in this picturesque
mountain setting, with its clean air and many outdoor activities
year round. Debbie and her family love sledding, quadding,
camping and fishing. She says, “The abundance of wildlife to
be seen is amazing, such as black bears, grizzlies, elk, moose and deer. This
means that when you drive in the Valley, you share the highways and roads
with the wildlife too.”
For Debbie, the best part of the job is the connection that the health care
team has with the community and the events that occur. Debbie says, “The
team is small enough that you truly do get to know your people, engage and
become invested in the work that everyone is doing. Our teams work together,
keeping the patient at the center, despite the role they have, such as
housekeeper or nursing.”
Debbie feels that the best part of serving the patients is the sense of
community and genuine caring that is evident. The communities are welcoming
and friendly and reach out to newcomers. “Each community is very invested in
their health care services and the volunteerism is great!”

On the Road Again…by Ashley
After 42 flights, 4 missed connections, a
lifetime worth of jetlag, and a 3-day
white out-Planes, Trains and
Automobiles experience, the summer
time will provide me with time to recharge for the
next busy career fair season. My second year in this
position has been amazing, and was highlighted by
renewed connections and new contacts. Our focus

open arms and we look forward to expanding our
talent pool with candidates from across the nation.
Specialty trained nurses, Rehab specialists and
Ultrasound Technologists have been particularly
elusive, but we continue our efforts to seek them
out and bring them back to our little piece of
northern paradise.

Your Healthcare Career Needs Referees!
Referees – the people who provide references about
your past performance to potential employers - are
essential to your career success.
Its up to you to prepare them for their starring role
and its never too early to start!
Make a list of all the people who can attest to your
skills. Past Supervisors, are the most important, but
don’t limit yourself – use past coworkers,
contractors, subordinates, project partners and
more.
Well before you start applying, contact each of your
Referees to make sure you have at least 2 points of
current contact information for them, and talk to
them about your job search, let them help you with
your job search by telling them about the
opportunities you are looking for. Make sure that
you also tell them what skills you believe they can
attest to for you as well.
Finally, when you are asked to provide your
References, select the ones who are the most
suitable for the particular position you are hoping to
be hired into, and call them to make sure they are
available. While you have them on the phone, let
them know how excited you are about your potential
employer, and why you are excited. That
enthusiasm will be repeated by your Referees to
your potential employer when they call!
