A calendar is a record of days, weeks, months and years with the two most common types being the Gregorian and Islamic calendars. The Islamic calendar, also known as the lunar or Hijri calendar, was introduced by Umar ibn al-Khattab in 638 and marks the date of July 1, 622 on the Gregorian calendar as when the prophet Muhammad migrated to Medina.
