Newick 09, 11kV Rebuild- UK Power Networks
The 11kv line consisting of 76 spans crossing the Newick area in East Sussex had been
programmed for a refurbishment by his client; Matthew had been given the responsibility of
obtaining consents for the scheme to be carried out over a timescale of three weeks.
Matthew had negotiated with a difficult land owner and their land agent to agree access
routes by carrying out a record of state and condition, This meant Matthew had gained the
trust of the landowner and land agent as well as giving them the security that their land
would be reinstated.
Matthew had also agreed access routes with a very large land owner in the area, he
managed the scheme professionally so the timing of the works would coincide with the large
game shoot which occurred for three months of the year, This land owner also had
government stewardship schemes in place on the land, this meant the rebuild on the land
would need to be carried out in sections to reduce damage and to give the land time to
recover, Matthew managed this scheme professionally and successfully with minimal
compensation claims received by his department.
2. Hoaden Court Farm, 11kV Rebuild and network reinforcement, part overhead and
part underground- UK Power Networks
Matthew had the responsibility of getting consents for the reinforcement of the network by
installing an 11kv cable in an existing easement strip and dealing with very difficult
landowners and their representatives. Matthew was also responsible for getting consents for
the 11kv overhead rebuild included in this reinforcement. Matthew had dealt with the scheme
professionally and carefully through to completion.
33kV-11kV D pole consents- UK Power Networks
These schemes required Matthew to get single site access forms and sometimes wayleave
agreements for poles that were decaying or decayed, Matthew was responsible for agreeing
access routes to the poles of which some were on an urgent basis, Matthew had also met
with land owners agents and other legal representatives on site to agree compensation
claims post construction.
Ashington- HV and LV overhead removal and LV cable installation. To eliminate
three ESQC’s- UK Power Networks
This scheme had been passed to Matthew after a number of health and safety issues had
been reported as well as voltage complaints in the area, the scheme involved the removal of
the LV overhead network to be replaced by LV underground cable, Matthew had to identify
and negotiate challenging cable routes with landowners, in total this scheme affected 18
properties. The scheme was ready for completion when a HV line removal scheme had
arisen which involved one of the same landowners, Matthew connected the schemes
together and identified another cable route to remove the health and safety issue from this
land owners property and agreed all consents with additional landowners in a small time
frame.
WSC Mountfield, 11kV rebuild and part undergrounding
This project was a UK Power Networks worst served customer scheme, of which involved an
11kv line refurbishment and an unused substation removal, Matthew had to liaise with land
owners and companies of which had strict on site safety regulations and environmental
policies to follow when the works are carried out on site. The scheme involved large
amounts of network undergrounding due to ESQC issues, Matthew handled the scheme
professionally through to completion.
