1. McDonalds Radio Advert
I think the clear message in this advert is to make you listen to the advert. From the moment we
hear the person speaking it instantly catches our attention because of how clear, deep and loud his
voice is. From what we can hear he is spelling out happy meal specifically targeted at the parents. I
like how simply it is but yet it really catches your attention. What I also like about it is that he is
spelling out the words ‘happy’ ‘kids’ and ‘toy’. In my opinion this is very good because it makes you
spell it out in your head causing you to carry on listening to the advert.
It doesn’t say the brand name but instead it plays out the famous “I’m loving it” tune. Everyone
knows this tune, McDonalds is one of the biggest fast food chain in the world. Everyone knows it and
everyone knows the famous tune that they play out at the end of their adverts. So in a way they
don’t need to say their brand name people instantly know what it is simply because of that tune. I
also like how they’ve mentioned the price of the meal. I think this makes it simpler for people, who
are thinking of going to McDonalds after hearing this advert. It reassures them that its cheap so it’s
not worth going to the restaurant and finding out the price for yourself.
According to the RACC website these are the rules when it comes to advertising food in the radio.
There are detailed rules on food, nutrition and health claims in the BCAP Code (Rules 13.1-13.15, Section 13,
pages 64-70). Please visit www.cap.org.uk
RACC Guidance:
Only health and nutrition claims listed in the Annex of Regulation 1974/2006 are permitted in
advertisements: http://eur-lex.europa.eu/LexUriServ/LexUriServ.do?uri=OJ:L:2007:012:0003:0018:EN:PDF
Advertisements for infant formula are prohibited.
Promotional offers and the use of licensed characters and popular celebrities with children must be
responsible and must not be promoted or used in food or soft drink advertisements that are targeted directly
at pre-school or primary school children (exception: fresh fruit and vegetables).
From what we can see none of the rules and regulations has been breached, so therefore this would
make this advert safe to use.
Overall I think this advert is one of the simplest but yet effective advert to use to attract the listeners
attention. Everyone knows what McDonalds is and everyone knows the tune that they use at the
end of their adverts.
