Nigeria REEEP Goal
To facilitate the development and financing
of renewable energy (RE) and energy
efficiency (EE) markets in Nigeria that
increase access to affordable clean energy,
create jobs, and enable economic growth.

Energy Financing
Develop the capacity of companies (SMEs)
in the clean energy sector and other
selected sectors to access financing.

Beneficiaries
Winrock will provide technical assistance that will contribute to USAID’s
broader goal of developing RE and EE markets in Nigeria. To
implement the Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Project
(REEEP), we will build the capacity of:
• Banks and other financial institutions;
• Companies that deploy and maintain clean energy projects;
• Agribusinesses, health delivery sites, and businesses willing to retrofit with
energy-efficient technologies;
• GON institutions and ministries to encourage enactment of appropriate and
relevant legislation for the clean energy sector; and
• vocational training institutes to ensure there is a continuing source of
education after project completion. Winrock will work alongside
USAID/Nigeria and the GON, and in close collaboration with other donors, to
achieve project objectives.

Winrock’s Role

for RE/EE technologies

Road So Far
• We are working with Markets II and HIV/AIDS program and have
identified agribusinesses and health care centres in need of RE. eg,
Small scale rice processors in Abakiliki and Generral Hospital, Abaji
• We have engaged with RE/EE Project developers to increase the
project pipeline.
• The capacity of the partner banks have been assessed by Crimson
Capital and training module is being developed to address the gaps.
• Clean Energy Research institute has been identified and engaged.
• Special Module for RE training package for women and youths is
near completion
• Potential members of Clean Energy Coalition group has been
identified
• On going meetings with GON, MDAs and other partners for
legislation, support and sustainability.
