Associate Spotlight - 03-2015 Mary Christensen
1. March 2015
MARY CHRISTENSEN, HOUSEKEEPER
ASSOCIATE SPOTLIGHT
In this issue of the Associate Spotlight of the month, I’d
like to introduce you to Mary Christensen. As the
housekeeper for the 150 unit Admiral’s Cove Apartments
in Anchorage, she has a unique role on the team. She’s
not only responsible for the standard duties generally
associated with a housekeeper – unit turns, common area
cleaning, office sprucing and light service requests; she’s
also instrumental in assisting her CD to keep the office
open when the traffic is heavy, answering phones when
necessary, and taking tours if needed. She arrives to work
early most days and always goes the extra mile to
complete her job.
Mary’s co-workers will tell you that she’s the embodiment
of a Team Player and has made a huge impact at Admiral’s
Cove. She has elevated the quality standards at her
property, and maintains the community to a “very high
level of clean”. Her infectious smile and genuine yet personal greeting to all the people she
comes into contact with has made her a favorite of the residents that call Admiral’s Cove their
home. She’s so well liked and utterly respected by our residents that they routinely ask for her
to personally assist them with requests around their apartments.
In fact, while conducting research for this article, her CD told me that one of the things that
Mary has done for years that really stood out to him is the care and commitment she’s
demonstrated for one of their elderly residents. Mary has gone out of her way to help this
woman as much as possible. She carries groceries in for her, takes out her trash, and yes - even
waters her plants on a regular basis. Our resident has routinely informed us that “I don't know
what I would do without Mary. I just appreciate her so much."
With this type of laser focus on service to our customers, it’s no wonder that in the 2014
SatisFacts Survey, the residents at this community scored Admiral’s Cove a 9 out of 11 possible
points for the common area categories which in turn contributed to the team earning a Superior
ranking (4.0 or above). Mary’s dedication to the property contributed to Admirals Cove
receiving the highest customer satisfaction score in the entire Alaska Region of 4.33 this past
year. Quite an accomplishment!
2. March 2015
While she’s originally from Utah, Mary moved to Alaska in the summer of 2010. Coming from a
family with three brothers and a sister – it’s safe to say that she’s pretty tough underneath that
humble personality and easygoing smile. As a lover of the great outdoors, she enjoyed exploring
the abundance of nature that was within close proximity to her home. She talked at length
about the many different national parks that were available to her in the Beehive State.
Although she was close to her mom and considers her a very big inspiration in her life, this
pursuit of adventure – coupled with her love of family, caused her to move to Alaska to be close
to her brother Martin (who happens to work for Weidner as well).
Some of Mary's many outside activities include her passion for recreational
dodge ball. Often, she is excited for her Fridays when she can get out and
be a part of the action. She also loves fishing, target shooting, softball, and
of course BBQ's. Additionally, Mary has a passion for reading, as well as
lending her personal time to support her favorite charity - the Cystic
Fibrosis Foundation. During the tax season, she works part time to help
her brother’s Tax Preparation service as a greeter out on the street. Yep –
she gets into costume as Lady Liberty and tries to get potential customers
thru the door. If that doesn’t demonstrate sisterly love, I don’t know what
does. But the biggest part of her heart is reserved for Piglet, her precious Corgi (seen above)!
Mary has really embraced the family atmosphere that she’s found within Weidner and in
particular – her team at Admiral’s Cove. Beyond anything she’s every experienced in a work
environment, she’s very appreciative of how this team of co-workers looks out for each other,
celebrates one another and takes care of their own.
“I have had the great pleasure of working with Mary for the past few years
and it has been a delight to do so. Mary is truly special. She has a greatness
when it applies to customer service….and is one of a kind. She makes us all
a happy bunch around these parts. Hats off to her on this honor”.
