It is my pleasure to provide this letter of recommendation for Mr. Martin Zhou. I am the
Director of Development for Value Retail China and oversee the design and construction of
Value Retail villages in Asia.
Martin held the position of Technical Manager / Façade within the Development Team of
Value Retail China from 13 Jul ’15 until 14 Dec ’16 when unfortunately, he along with a few
other members of the Development Team was made redundant due insufficient pipeline of
work.
As our specialist on facades, Martin was responsible for ensuring that both the design and the
construction of the building enclosures met with our high standards. He demonstrated
excellent knowledge of the various types of roofing and façades materials, and methodology.
In addition, he is keenly interested in any new material or technology, and works hard to stay
current with advances in the industry, several of which he was able to bring to our attention.
Martin was responsible for the technical review of Construction and Shop Drawings and
ensuring that construction was in compliance with those documents and local building codes.
His role also included ensuring the coordination of other elements with the façades such as
architectural embellishments, signage, telecom antennas and lighting.
For one of our roofing installations, a non-typical material was selected with which the general
contractor was unfamiliar and very reluctant to use. Martin’s coaching and mentoring did
much to alleviate the fears of the contractor and we were eventually able to have our
preferred system installed.
Martin was necessarily persistent and our most recently completed village, Shanghai Village,
is much the better for his professional efforts and commitment. Martin worked well with the
other members of our internal and external management team and was considered a
valuable member whose absence will be missed.
