Nothing but nets motivation letter Diborah Schouten
1. “The thankful heart will find, in every hour, some heavenly blessings.” ― Henry Ward Beecher
Gratitude. My motivation letter for Nothing but Nets.
Gratitude opens the heart. Gratitude is a two-way flow of appreciation between your thankfulness
and the uplifting response that you feel in return. With this recharged heart of thankfulness we will
find reason to be grateful wherever we look.
This is why I want to focus my contribution to Nothing but Nets on sharing and showing gratefulness
to our local heroes. Through video's from the local people, showing their gratitude and how Nothing
but Nets influences their lives. I will let the local people tell their stories which; not from sadness but
from pureness, honesty and gratitude. To enable them to express this from their heart, most stories
will be in their mother language (with English subtitles).
I will make personal vlogs of the experiences I have and capture also my own feelings and emotions
which come with it.
Back home, I will ask JCI Chapters to do the same. To vlog their initiatives for Nothing but Nets and
share them, so they can inspire other chapters around the world to do the same. This is how we can
collaborate and connect with people in need to create more impact together.
September 2014 I had my first meeting with JCI. Until then I had never heard of Nothing but Nets.
During the JCI World Congress in Leipzig I helped with the Dutch Night, were I made Pumpkin Soup
for all attendees. Every cent we earned went to Nothing but Nets. We collected $20 000 Dollar!
Three weeks later I saw a news message of Nothing but Nets on the television, sharing how many
lives they safe each year, and how the initiatives worldwide have led to a reduction in malaria
mortality rates by 47% globally since 2000 and by 54% in the African Region. It really touched my
heart and soul, and I was so proud I had a little part in that.
I would love to contribute an even bigger part. Six years ago I travelled through Kenya, and I met
beautiful people who all have loved ones who are affected by malaria. Also Maria who lost her
daughter. I gave her all my odorless shampoos, hoping it would help in some way (not knowing a lot
of Malaria or how I could help at that time).
I sincerely hope you will select me, to empower myself and inspire others, touching many lives and
hearts. I am always looking for initiatives where I can contribute a concrete value and create a
personal investment at the same time. Nothing but Nets suits this passion; to serve a meaningful
contribution to the world. I hope I have the chance to tell the story of Africa and how we can defeat
malaria together!
With love and gratitude,
