The data is reinforced through more narrative content in order to paint a full picture of the regions strength, key locations, case study companies, thought leaders, news and events.
Birmingham is now home to more businesses and has seen the most new business start-ups of any city outside the capital, with growth focused in high value added sectors such as health and life sciences, ICT and digital and advanced engineering.
Growth is being driven by exports, with the depreciation of sterling of particular benefit to key export-intensive sectors like motor vehicles and components and key employers like Jaguar Land Rover.
As far as the visitor economy is concerned Birmingham’s strong performance in 2015 has continued into 2016. Further strong growth in international arrivals Birmingham Airport suggest that numbers of overseas visitors, who tend to stay longer and spend more, have continued to rise. Our 2016 Visitor survey, meanwhile, reveals that the proportions of visitors staying overnight and from overseas are both double those recorded in 2013 and that visitor spend per head is up by 34%.
