LEED 2009 – MRc6 for Healthcare, LEEDv4 – Building Product Disclosure & Optimization, Opt. 2
Requirements LEED 2009 (BD+C)
Increase building flexibility and ease of adaptive reuse over the
life of the structure by employing a minimum of three of the
following design and/or space planning strategies:
»
» Use of interstitial space serving for a minimum 20% of
project diagnostic and treatment or other clinical floor area
[calculation based on Departmental Gross Square Foot
(DGSF)].Designdistributionsystemsforelectrical,information
technology, communication, medical gases, and sprinklers
with the capability to control multiple zones in clinical spaces.
(Inpatient units are included in this calculation.)
»
» Provide programmed soft space, such as administration/
storage, equal to a minimum of 5% of total clinical space.
Locate soft space adjacent to clinical departments
that anticipate growth. Determine strategy for future
accommodation of displaced soft space (calculation based
on project DGSF).
»
» Provide shelled space equal to a minimum of 5% of total
project departmental clinical space; locate where it can be
occupied without displacing occupied space (calculation
based on project DGSF).
»
» Identify horizontal expansion capacity for diagnostic and
treatment or other clinical space equal to a minimum of 30%
of existing of future expansion). Reconfiguration of additional
existing occupied space that has been constructed with
demountable partition systems is permitted. Or design for
future vertical expansion on a minimum of 75% of the roof,
ensuring that existing operations and service systems will be
able to operate at or near capacity during the expansion.
»
» Designate location(s) for future above-grade parking
structure(s) equal to 50% of existing on-grade parking
capacity, with direct access to the main hospital lobby/
circulation/ vertical transportation pathways.
»
» Use the demountable partitions for 50% of applicable areas
as a strategy for future flexibility.
»
» Use movable modular casework for a minimum of 50% of
casework and custom millwork. (Calculation is based upon
the combined value of the two elements, as determined by
the cost estimator or contractor).
Requirements LEED v4
Increase building flexibility and ease of adaptive use over the

150. Regional Materials
LEED 2009 – MRc5, LEEDv4 – Environmental Product Declarations, Opt. 2
Requirements LEED 2009 (BD+C)
Use building materials or products that have been extracted,
harvested or recovered, as well as manufactured, within a
specified distance of the project site for a minimum of 10% or
20%, based on cost, of the total materials value. If only a fraction
of a product or material is extracted, harvested, or recovered
and manufactured locally, then only that percentage (by weight)
must contribute to the regional value. The minimum percentage
regional materials for each point threshold is as follows:
Regional Materials Points
10% 1
20% 2
Option 1
All building materials or products have been extracted, harvested
or recovered, as well as manufactured with a 500 mile (800
kilometer) radius of the project site.
OR
Option 2
Building materials or products shipped by rail or water have been
extracted, harvested or recovered, as well as manufactured
within a 500 mile (800 kilometer) total travel distance of the
project site using a weighted average determined through the
following formula:
(Distance by rail/3) + (Distance by inland waterway/2) + (Distance
by sea/15) + (Distance by all other means) < 500 [800 kilometers]
Requirements LEED 2009 (ID+C)
Option 1
Use a minimum of 20% of the combined value of construction
and Division 12 (Furniture) materials and products that were
manufactured regionally within a radius of 500 miles (800
kilometers).
OR
Use a minimum of 20% of the combined value of construction
and Division 12 (Furniture) materials and products that are
manufactured regionally within a 500 mile (800 kilometer) total
travel distance of the project site using a weighted average
determined through the following formula:
(Distance by rail/3) + (Distance by inland waterway/2) + (Distance
by sea/15) + (Distance by all other means) < 500 [800 kilometers]
Option 2
Meet the requirements for Option 1.
AND
Use a minimum of 10% of the combined value of construction
and Division 12 (Furniture) materials and products extracted,
harvested or recovered, as well as manufactured, within 500
miles (800 kilometers) of the project.
OR
Use a minimum of 10% of the combined value of construction
and Division 12 (Furniture) materials and products extracted,
harvested or recovered, as well as manufactured regionally
within a 500 mile (800 kilometer) total travel distance of the
project site using a weighted average determined through the
following formula:
(Distance by rail/3) + (Distance by inland waterway/2) + (Distance
by sea/15) + (Distance by all other means) < 500 [800 kilometers]
Material costs include all expenses to deliver the materials to
the project site. Material costs should account for all taxes and
transportation cost incurred by the contractor but exclude
any costs for labor and equipment once the material has been
delivered to the site.
For assemblies or products manufactured within the 500-
mile radius that contain some components extracted farther
away, use multiple lines when listing purchases. Base the
proportionality of such products’ costs on the weight of their
various components.
Requirements LEED v4
Option 2
Use products that comply with one of the criteria before for 50%,
by cost, of the total value of permanently installed products in
the project. Products will be valued as below.
»
» Third party certified products that demonstrate impact
reduction below industry average in at least three of the
following categories are valued at 100% of their cost for
credit achievement calculations.
• Global warming potential (greenhouse gases), in CO2e;
• Depletion of stratospheric ozone layer, in kg CFC-11;
• Acidification of land and water sources, in moles H+ or kg
SO2;
• Eutrophication, in kg nitrogen or kg phosphate;
• Formation of tropospheric ozone, in kg NOx, kg O3eq, or kg
ethane; and
• Depletion of nonrenewable energy resources, in MJ.
• USGBC approved program – Products that comply with
other USGBC approved multi-attribute frameworks.
150
151. For credit achievement calculation, products sourced (extracted, manufactured, purchased) within 100 miles (160 km) of the project site
are valued at 200% of their base contributing cost.
Avanti Products Contribution:
ID&C Option 2 and BD&C entire credit – Extracted, harvested, or recovered as well as manufactured
regionally:
As Avanti received material from all over the US and Europe, their entire product will not qualify for Option 2 of the ID&C credit or the
BD&C credit. LEED mandates that products must be extracted, harvested or recovered, as well as manufactured, within 500 miles of the
project. However, a fraction of Avanti’s products will qualify for this credit. These percentages are calculated by weight. See the example

Figure 1: Regional Materials Example Calculation
1. For this example Avanti’s location is used as the Project Site. The glass manufacturer used is in PA. Avanti retains the services of many glass
manufacturers across the United States.
2. If the Project Site is within 500 miles of Los Angeles, CA the hardware may contribute toward the Regional Materials credit.
The dominance of the glass, which is extracted within 200 miles of the manufacturing point of Greenwich, CT, allows a potential of 93%
of an Avanti product to count towards the regional credit.
The final regional material calculation is done by cost. Products, like Avanti’s, who only contribute a percentage of their total weight to this
credit must multiply this percentage by the total cost of the product.
Cost of Regional Material = Percentage of local material (by weight) * Total Cost of Product
Note: This calculator does not guarantee a project will get a percentage of points for implementing Avanti products as it depends on the
location of the project. The calculator lists the materials that could possibly qualify for this credit.

Avanti products have two possible glass types, LCD or regular glass. Depending on the choice of glass selected, the project location needs
to be located within the intersection of two of the three 500 mile radii to receive some contribution of this credit. The project must be
within 500 miles of the manufacturing point, Greenwich, CT; to contribute to all this or any Regional Material credit. As a good portion
(weight) of Avanti products are made up of glass, having the glass source close to the point of manufacture means most of Avanti’s
products have the potential to contribute to this credit.
For any project located in this region, Avanti’s products will fully
contribute to Option 1 of LEED IDC Credit MR5.

Option 1 Requirements
Use a minimum of 20% of the combined value of construction
and Division 12 (Furniture) materials and products that were
manufactured regionally within a radius of 500 miles.
Avanti Product Contribution:
For this option in LEED IDC, the manufacturing point is what is
important. According to LEED,
“The point of manufacture is considered the place of final
assembly of components into the building product that is
furnished and installed by the trade’s workers. For example, if the
hardware comes from Dallas, the lumber comes from Vancouver,
and the joist is assembled in Kent, Washington, then the location
of the final assembly is Kent, Washington.”
Below is a map that shows the area within a 500 mile radius of
Greenwich, CT, the location of manufacturing.

153. Recycled Content
LEED 2009 – MRc4, LEEDv4 – Environmental Product Declarations, Opt. 2
Requirements LEED 2009
Use materials with recycled content1 such that the sum of postconsumer2 recycled content plus ½ of the preconsumer3 content
constitutes at least 10% or 20%, based on cost, of the total value of the materials in the project. The minimum percentage materials
recycled for each point threshold is as follows:
Recycled Content Points
10% 1
20% 2
The recycled content value of a material assembly is determined by weight. The recycled fraction of the assembly is then multiplied by the
cost of assembly to determine recycled content value.
Requirements LEED v4
Use products that comply with one of the criteria before for 50%, by cost, of the total value of permanently installed products in the

155. Figures 1-4 show recycled content calculations done for 5ft x 9ft glass partitions. They both have single glazed or double glazed channels
and different amounts of hardware but their recycled content only varies slightly. This example is scalable to any of Avanti’s specific
solutions by taking the square feet of glass for a specific project and diving it by 45. This will give a pounds per square feet value which can
be multiplied by the square feet of glass for an amount of glass. Provided are two ranges of hardware weight 0-9lbs and 10-25lbs. Most of
Avanti’s products and solutions will fall into one of these two ranges. As the glass is overwhelmingly dominant by weight in all of Avanti’s
products, the recycled content will always be around 35%.
1. Recycled Content is defined in accordance with the International Organization of Standards document, ISO 14021-Environmenal
labels and declarations – Self-declared environmental claims (Type II environmental labeling).
2. Postconsumer material is defined as waste material generated by households or by commercial, industrial and institutional facilities
in their role as end-users of the product, which can no longer be used for its intended purpose.
3. Pre-consumer material defined as material diverted from the waste stream during the manufacturing process. Reutilization of
materials (i.e., rework, regrind or scrap generated in a process and capable of being reclaimed within the same process that generated
it) is excluded.
Minimum Acoustic Performance
LEED 2009 – EQ P3 for Schools, LEEDv4 – Acoustic Performance
Requirements LEED 2009 (BD+C for Schools)
Background noise
Achieve a maximum background noise level from heating,
ventilating and air conditioning (HVAC) systems in classrooms
and other core learning spaces of 45 dBA.
AND
Reverberation Time
Design classrooms and other core learning spaces to include
sound-absorptive finishes to sufficiently limit reverberation in
classrooms and other core learning spaces.
Case 1. Classrooms and core learning spaces 20,000
cubic feet (560 cubic meters)
For classrooms and core learning spaces less than 20,000 cubic
feet, option for compliance include:
Option 1, Minimum NRC
For each room, confirm that the total surface area finished with
a material with a Noise Reduction Coefficient (NRC) of 0.70 or
higher equals or exceeds the total ceiling area (excluding lights,
diffusers and grilles).
OR
Option 2, Compliance with ANSI Standard S12.60-2002
or non-U.S. equivalent
Confirm through calculations described in ANSI Standard
S12.60-2002 that rooms are designed to meet reverberation
time requirements as specified in that standard. Projects outside
the U.S. may use a local equivalent to ANSI Standard S12.60-
2002.
Case 2. Classrooms and core learning spaces 20,000
cubic feet (560 cubic meters)
For classrooms and core learning spaces 20,000 cubic feet or
greater, confirm through calculations described in ANSI Standard
S12.60-2002 that rooms are designed to have a reverberation
time of 1.5 seconds or less. Projects outside the U.S. may use a
local equivalent to ANSI Standard S12.60-2002.
Requirements LEED v4:
HVAC background noise
Achieve a maximum background noise level1 from heating,
ventilating and air conditioning (HVAC) systems in classrooms
and other core learning spaces. Follow the recommended
methodologies and best practices for mechanical system noise
control in ANSI Standard S12.60-2002, Part 1, Annex A.1; the
2011 HVAC Applications ASHRAE Handbook, Chapter 48, Noise
and Vibration Control (with errata); AHRI Standard 885-2008; or
a local equivalent for projects outside the U.S.
156. Exterior noise
For high-noise sites (peak-hour Leq above 60dBA during school
hours), implement acoustic treatment and other measures
to minimize noise intrusion from exterior sources and control
sound transmission between classrooms and other core learning
spaces. Projects at least one-half mile (800 meters) from any
significant noise source (e.g. aircraft over-flights, highways,
trains, industry) are exempt.
Reverberation Time
Adhere to the following reverberation time requirements.
Classrooms and core learning spaces 20,000 cubic
feet (566 cubic meters)
Design classrooms and other core learning spaces to include
sufficient sound-absorptive finishes for compliance with the
reverberation time requirements specified in ANSI Standard
S12.60-2002, Part 1, Acoustical Performance Criteria, Design
Requirements and Guidelines for Schools, or a local equivalent
for projects outside the U.S.
Option 1
For each room, confirm that the total surface area of acoustic
wall panels, ceiling finishes, and other sound-absorbent finishes
equals or exceeds the total ceiling area of the room (excluding
lights, diffusers, and grilles). Materials must have an NRC of 0.70
or higher to be included in the calculation.
OR
Option 2
Confirm through calculations described in ANSI Standard
S12.60-2002 that rooms are designed to meet reverberation
time requirements as specified in that standard.
Classrooms and core learning spaces 20,000 cubic
feet (566 cubic meters)
Meet the recommended reverberation times for classrooms and
core learning spaces described in the NRC-CNRC Construction
Technology Update No. 51, Acoustical Design of Rooms for
Speech (2002), or a local equivalent for projects outside the U.S.
Exceptions
Exceptions to the requirements because of a limited scope of
work or to observe historic preservation requirements will be
considered.
Implementation:
Reverberation
Anappropriatereverberationtimecanbeconfirmedinthedesign
phase through a calculation, or it can be achieved prescriptively
by using sufficient quantities of materials with a specified noise
reduction coefficient (NRC).
Sound Transmission
Specified sound transmission performance is not required for
compliance with this prerequisite. For information on sound
transmission, see EQc9, Enhanced Acoustical Performance.
Avanti, in their supplied acoustic chart, lists the product’s Rw
numbers which measure sound transmission reduction. Rw
is roughly a measurement of how much sound, in decibels, is
restricted from passing through a surface. This prerequisite is
looking for sound absorption information not sound transmission
reduction ratings. For both reverberation time measurements
and minimum Noise Reduction Coefficient ratings for sound-
absorbent finishes, LEED requires (NRC) statistics. NRC is a
type of sound absorption measurement, averaged over specific
frequencies. Sound absorption measurements describe the
percentage of incident sound that reflects back into a room
(e.g. a surface with a NRC of 0.5 will at an average frequency
reflect back half of the sound incident upon it). Unfortunately,
Rw and NRC statistics can be a bit counteractive, Rw is focused
on keeping sound in. While NRC is concerned with making sure
it doesn’t stay in. Though a high Rw value means a high level of
sound absorption and not just reflection back into the room,
Avanti’s partition would have to be tested to determine exact
absorptive properties like NRC. An RT60 Test is necessary to
calculate reverberation time and an NRC test is necessary to
measure NRC ratings. As it seems unlikely that Avanti’s products
will contribute very much to this prerequisite, these tests are an
unnecessary expense and should not be undertaken.

rating of at least 35. Projects outside the U.S. may use a local equivalent to ANSI Standard S12.60-2002.
AND
Background noise
Reduce background noise level to 40 dBA or less from heating, ventilating and air conditioning (HVAC) systems in classrooms and other
core learning spaces.
Requirements LEED v4:
HVAC background noise
Achieve a background noise level of 35 dBA or less from heating ventilating, and air-conditioning (HVAC) systems in classrooms and other

STC 30
Definitions:
Sound Transmission Class (STC): is a single number rating for
the acoustic attenuation (reduction) of airborne sound passing
through a partition or any other building element such as a wall,
roof or door as measured in an acoustical testing laboratory
following accepted industry practice. A higher STC rating
provides more sound attenuation through a partition.
Rw Values: Rw describes the airborne sound insulating power of
a building element. It is a laboratory measured value. It can apply
to walls, ceilings/floors, ceiling/roofs, doors and windows. The
higher the number, the greater the sound insulating power of the
building element. For example, an increase in the Rw of a wall by
10 points will reduce the perceived loudness of sound passing
through the wall by about half. It generally varies from STC values
by less than 1% due to a different frequency range that is used
during testing.

space types in Table 1 and 2. The glazings include:
»
» Double Glazed Laminated finishes
»
» Twin Glazed finishes
The space types include:
»
» For spaces adjacent to classrooms (Table 1)
• Corridors
•
Offices
• Conference Rooms
»
» For ancillary classrooms which have adjacent spaces (Table 2)
• Corridors adjacent to (corridors, conference rooms,
outdoors)
•
Music Rooms adjacent to (outdoors)
•
Office or Conference Room adjacent to (corridor, office, or
outdoors)
All finishes qualify for entry doors into classrooms. This applies
to Avanti’s pivot frameless glass swing doors and the sliding
glass doors
Conclusion:
ForthesoundtransmissionportionofEQc9,insomeapplications,
Avanti products will help a project qualify for this LEED credit.
Grey highlighted in Tables 1 and 2 are all the space descriptions
that some of Avanti’s glazings qualify for (grey highlighted
in Table 3). Avanti’s products will help reduce HVAC noise in
learning spaces, helping projects qualify for the background
noise portion of EQc9. Any HVAC noise located outside a
classroom utilizing Avanti double or twin glazed products will be
reduced to below the 40dBA requirement. Beyond LEED, Avanti
products focus on reducing sound transmission and not sound
absorption and thus marketing should be geared towards this
aspect. Sound absorption will be difficult for any glass product
as it will tend to be a much better reflector than absorber (part
of glass properties).

159. Requirements LEED 2009
Use salvaged, refurbished or reused materials, the sum of which constitutes at least 5% or 10%, based on cost of the total value of
materials on the project. The minimum percentage materials reused for each point threshold is as follows:

a reduction in materials use through life-cycle assessment. Option 3 – Reuse or salvage building materials from off site or on site as a
percentage of the surface area, as listed in the table below. Include structural elements (e.g., floors, roof decking). Enclosure materials (e.g.,
skin, framing), and permanently installed interior elements (e.g., walls, doors, floor coverings, ceiling systems). Exclude from the calculation
wind assemblies and any hazardous materials that are remediated as part of the project. Materials contributing toward this credit may not

Requirements LEED 2009 (BD+C ID+C)
Achieve a direct line of sight to the outdoor environment via
vision glazing between 30 inches and 90 inches (between
0.8 meters and 2.3 meters) above the finish floor for building
occupants in 90% of all regularly occupied areas. Determine the
area with a direct line of sight by totaling the regularly occupied
floor area that meets the following criteria:
• In plan view, the area is within sight lines drawn from
perimeter vision glazing.
• In section view, a direct sight line can be drawn from the
area to perimeter vision glazing.
Materials Reuse
LEED 2009 – MRc3, LEEDv4 – Building-Life Cycle Impact Reduction, Option 3
Daylight and Views - Views
LEED 2009 – EQc8.2, LEEDv4 – Quality Views
The line of sight may be drawn through interior glazing. For
private offices, the entire floor area of the office may be counted
if 75% or more of the area has a direct line of sight to perimeter
vision glazing. For multi-occupant spaces, the actual floor area
with a direct line of sight to perimeter vision glazing is counted.
Requirements LEED v4:
Achieve a direct line of sight to the outdoors via vision glazing
for 75% of all regularly occupied floor area. View glazing in the
contributing area must provide a clear image of the exterior, not
obstructed by frits, fibers, patterned glazing, or added tints that
distort color balance.
160. Additionally, 75% of all regularly occupied floor area must have
at least two of the following four kinds of views:
• Multiple lines of sight to vision glazing in different directions
at least 90 degrees apart;
•
Views that include at least two of the following: (1) flora,
fauna, or sky; (2) movement; and (3) objects at least 25 feet
from the exterior of the glazing;
•
Unobstructed views located within the distance of three
times the head height of the vision glazing; and
Above is a sample plan that demonstrates the increase in direct
line of sight to outdoor glazing that results form the use of Avanti
transparent partitions, walls and doors. The green shaded region
represents the direct line sight area of regularly occupied spaces
that is standard based on the design and layout of the floor. The
red region represents spaces that are not regularly occupied (i.e.
closets, storage rooms, elevator bank). The yellow shaded region
are the spaces that have direct line of sight to outdoor glazing
because of the use of Avanti products. As you can see there is a
significant increase in the area that has direct sight lines to the
outdoors. For LEED, EQc8.2 (see above) states that to
receive a point 90% of all regularly occupied spaces must
have a direct line to the outdoor environment. In the scenario
represented by the sample plan, before the implementation
of Avanti products an estimated 81% of spaces would have
access to exterior glazing, not qualifying the space for a point

161. Daylight and Views - Daylight
LEED 2009 – EQc8.1, LEEDv4 – Daylight
Requirements LEED 2009 (BD+C ID+C)
Through 1 of the 4 options, achieve daylighting in at least the following spaces:
Regularly Occupied Spaces Points
75% 1
90% 2
Option 1. Simulation
Demonstrate through computer simulation that the applicable spaces achieve daylight illuminance levels of a minimum of 10 footcandles
(fc) (108 lux) and a maximum of 500 fc (5,400 lux) in a clear sky condition on September 21 at 9 a.m. and 3 p.m.
Provide glare control devices to avoid high-contrast situations that could impede visual tasks. However, designs that incorporate view-
preserving automated shades for glare control may demonstrate compliance for only the minimum 10 fc (108 lux) illuminance level.
Option 2. Prescriptive
For sidelighting zones:
»
» Achieve a value, calculated as the product of the visible light transmittance (VLT) and window-to-floor area ration (WFR) between
0.150 and 0.180.
0.150 VLT X WFR 0.180
»
» The window area included in the calculation must be at least 30 inches (0.8 meters) above the floor.
»
» In section, the ceiling must not obstruct a lien that extends from the window-head to a point on the floor that is located twice the height
of the window-head from the exterior wall as measured perpendicular to the glass (see Figure 1).
»
» Provide glare control devices to avoid high-contrast situations that could impede visual tasks. However, designs that incorporate view-
preserving automated shades for glare control may demonstrate compliance for only the minimum 0.150 value.
Figure 1
162. For Toplighting zones:
»
» The toplighting zone under a skylight is the outline of the opening beneath the skylight, plus in each direction the lesser of.
• 70% of the ceiling height
• 1/2 the distance to the edge of the nearest skylight
• The distance to any permanent partition that is closer than 70% of the distance between the top of the partition and the ceiling.
• Achieve skylight coverage for the applicable space (containing the top-lighting zone) between 3% and 6% of the total floor area.
• The skylight must have a minimum 0.5 VLT.
• A skylight diffuser, if used, must have a measured haze value of greater than 90% when tested according to ASTM D1003.
Option 3. Measurement
Demonstrate through records of indoor light measurements that a minimum daylight illumination level of 10 fc (108 lux) and a maximum
of 500 fc (5,400 lux) has been achieved in the applicable spaces. Measurements must be taken on a 10-foot (3-meter) grid and shall be
recorded on building floor plans.
Provide glare control devices to avoid high-contrast situations that could impede visual tasks. However, designs that incorporate view-
preserving automated shades for glare control may demonstrate compliance for only the minimum 10 fc (108 lux) luminance level.
Option 4. Combination
Any of the above calculation methods may be combined to document the minimum daylight illumination in the applicable spaces.
Provide manual or automatic (with manual override) glare-control devices for all regularly occupied spaces. Select one of the following
three options.
Option 1. Simulation: Spatial Daylight Autonomy (2-3 points, 1-2 Healthcare)
Demonstrate through annual computer simulations that spatial daylight autonomy300/50% (sDA300/50%) of at least 55%, 75% or
90% is achieved. Use regularly occupied floor area. Healthcare projects should use the perimeter area determined under EQ Credit

Demonstrate through annual computer simulations that annual sunlight exposure1000,250 (ASE1000,250) of no more than 10% is
achieved. Use the regularly occupied floor area that is daylit per the sDA300/50% simulations.
The sDA and ASE calculation grids should be no more than 2 feet (600 millimeters) square and laid out across the regularly occupied
area t a work plane height of 30 inches (76 millimeters) above finished floor (unless otherwise defined). Use an hourly time-step analysis
based on typical meteorological year data, or an equivalent, for the nearest available weather station. Include any permanent interior
obstructions, Movable furniture and partitions may be excluded.
Demonstrate through computer modeling that illuminance levels will be between 300 lux and 3,000 lux for 9 a.m. and
3 p.m. both on a clear-sky day at the equinox, for the floor area indicated in Table 2. Use regularly occupied floor area.
Healthcare projects should use the perimeter area determined under EQ Credit Quality Views.
