Our purpose is to provide information and resources to all
M&T Bank employees allowing them to fully engage and
network within their community, their department and with the
entire M&T organization for personal, business and social
reasons.

The Area Captain Program
Area captains are able to share common points of interest and/or bring new
associates in contact with other employees with similar interests.
Responsibilities
Reach out to new hires within their assigned area to provide information and/or assist in
the onboarding or relocation process. (via email and phone call)
Develop a rapport with the new hire while helping them assimilate into the M&T culture,
following up 30 days after new hires start to offer additional assistance to the new hire.
Participate in monthly touch point calls to share best practices, receive updates from
Steering Committee, discuss upcoming projects, or initiatives the group is undertaking.
Participate in many of the WTMTB Resource Group Volunteer and employee
engagement events.

The Area Captain Program: Examples New Hire FAQ’s
Parking
Instruct new hire at offer if working in Buffalo to put name on parking list and give
parking options at hire, not start date.
Restaurant/Social Activities

For past 3 years, we have brought new hires and resource groups together for networking
Speaker Series
Bringing in local celebrities and business people to speak on behalf of their involvement in the
region (Examples: Dottie Gallagher-Cohen from Buffalo-Niagara Partnership, Mark Kelso from
the Buffalo Bills, and Thomas Hererra-Mishler from Buffalo Olmstead Parks)
M&T Sponsored
Greet employees on M&T sponsored days at local organizations (Example: Buffalo Zoo)
Volunteering
Botanical Gardens Easter Egg Hunt
Assist in the setup and clean up of a great annual event
Salvation Army Bell Ringing
Assist this organization in one of their most important fundraisers
Salvation Army Gift of Warmth
Assist in the giving out of food and warm clothes to those in need

History of the Welcome to M&T Bank Resource Group
2009-2015
• Western New York was the only chapter of the
Welcome to M&T Bank Employee Resource Group.
2015
• As a request from Diversity Council, WNY steering
committee created a playbook to assist in the creation
of additional chapters throughout the footprint.
2016
• Central New York and Delaware chapters formed
• Baltimore chapter in progress
