Rico and his friend started playing
tennis at 8:10 a.m. and ended at
8:55 a.m. How long did they play?
• Who play tennis?
• What time did they start playing?
• At what time did they end playing?
• What does the problem ask you to find?
• Group the class into six working
teams.
• Each group must work together in
solving for the answer to the
problem.
• After all the groups have finished,
display your outputs on the board
and discuss you work.
• How did you find the activity?
• How were you able to find the answer to
the problem?
• In how many ways were you able to
solve for the answer?
The previous problem is about finding
elapsed time.
Elapsed time – the amount or length of
time spent for an event.
There are several ways of finding elapsed
time.

• By drawing a number line.

8:55 Think of 8:55 as 8 hours and 55 minutes

How did you find elapsed time?
• Elapsed time is the length of the time when an event happened i.e.,
from the start to the end.
• To find the elapsed time, you can do the following:
1. Subtract the time when the event started from the time the event
ended.
2. Use a number line.
3. Count the number of seconds or minute form the time the event
started to the time the event ended.
Alice started watching her favorite
educational TV program at 6:30 in the
evening. If she finished watching at 7:25
in the evening, how long did Alice
watched the program?
How will you solve the problem?
You can use a number line to solve for the answer.
You notice that from 6:30 to 7:25 is 55 minutes.
