Maurice J. Spagnoletti was a prominent New Jersey banker tragically killed in June, 2011. His legacy, however,
lives on – of upholding the highest moral and ethical values for the American banking system – the cornerstone
of the American Dream. He was an honest man, with deep faith and a sincere desire to help others.
Maurice was the beloved husband of Marisa and the loving father of Lucy, their little girl. Marisa’s and
Maurice’s prayers to restore Lucy’s health issues were answered when they met Dr. John Connor. Through his
outstanding medical expertise and care, Lucy’s health flourished. Maurice committed to financially support Dr.
Connor’s efforts to helping children in New Jersey, as well as internationally, where Dr. Connor performs free
surgeries for orphans through the Children of China Pediatrics Foundation (CCPF).
In the days that followed Maurice’s tragic death, family, friends and strangers sent donations to help fulfill
Maurice’s promise to help the man Maurice referred to as “our hero.” As the donations mounted, CCPF opened
a rehabilitation training program for chronically disabled and post-surgical orphans in his honor – the Maurice
J. Spagnoletti Rehabilitation Program. In 2013 and 2014 Marisa supported these efforts by holding annual
Handbag Auctions, raising tens of thousands of dollars for charity.
Marisa was determined that, although Maurice may no longer be with us, his legacy will live on – with the
Maurice J. Spagnoletti Foundation (MJSF). The Foundation sprang from the love Marisa shared with Maurice,
which she still holds dear. Grateful for the support she received, Marisa is committed to supporting others in
need. Finally, while still grieving, Marisa is taking steps to help foster hope in others, as Maurice did with
everyone he touched in life.
This year MJSF is expanding its charity to children with special needs at P.G. Chambers School in Cedar
Knolls, New Jersey. MJSF will keep Maurice’s promise to support children in need, both nationally and
internationally.
Seeing firsthand the terrible impact of criminal and domestic violence on families, MJSF wants to
support domestic violence safe houses in New Jersey, such as “Safe in Hunterdon.”
Finally, although Maurice deeply regretted that he did not have the chance to serve, we share his
immense gratitude for the United States military forces. MJSF will help pay the great debt we owe
them for protecting our American way of life which – although admired by many – has never been in
greater jeopardy. MJSF will also extend this gratitude – and support – to charities that support the
Federal Bureau of Investigation, whose agents – and families -- inspire Marisa with their heroic efforts
to protect us domestically.
As MJSF continues to gather support and grow, we held our annual Handbag Auction on Saturday,
June 20th
, 2015, at the Hanover Manor in East Hanover, New Jersey, raising over $30,000 for our charities.
Soliciting the help of family and friends, establishing relationships with charitable organizations, and gaining
corporate and medical sponsors, the Maurice J. Spagnoletti Foundation – and all the good works it generates
– will live on as testament to the fact that love, support and hope can make a real difference, one life at a time.
