Wilhelm Conrad Röntgen
• On November 8, 1895, physicist Wilhelm Conrad Röntgen
becomes the first person to observe x-rays
• Röntgen’s discovery occurred accidentally in his Wurzburg 1895, physicist Germany lab
where he was testing whether cathode rays could pass through glass when
he notice a glow coming from a nearby chemically coated screen
• W.C Röntgen reported the discovery of x-rays in December 1895 after
7 weeks of assiduous work during
which he had studied the properties of this new type of
radiation able to go through screens of notable thickness
The important person behind the discovery of x-ray

what is x-ray?
• x-rays are a form of electromagnetic radiation,
similar to visible light.
• x-rays have higher energy and can past through
most objects including the body.
• x-ray wavelengths are shorter than those of UV
rays and typically longer than those of Gamma
rays

CHARACTERISTICS OF X-RAY
• They have a shorter wavelength of the electromagnetic spectrum.
• Requires high voltage to produce X-Rays.
• They are used to capture the human skeleton defects.
• They travel in a straight line and do not carry an electric charge with
them.
• They are capable of travelling in a vacuum.

USES AND BENEFITS OF X-
RAYS
• noninvasively and painlessly help to diagnose disease
and monitor therapy;
• support medical and surgical treatment planning
• guide medical personnel as they insert catheters,
stents, or other devices inside the body, treat tumors,
or remove blood clots or other blockages

HARMFUL EFFECTS
OF X-RAY
• Being exposed to X-rays does carry a risk of
causing cancer many years or decades later
• Tissue effects such as cataracts, skin
reddening, and hair loss, which occur at
relatively high levels of radiation exposure
