3. Middle Class
Bethany Young's world is being turned upside down as her
boyfriend starts receiving letters from a mystery person
threatening to kill him, and she's oblivious to the fact that
someone is watching her every move. She is represented as
getting educated and living in a nice area, her parents
probably work in order for her to be able to get the things that
she has and that she wants.
Although Bethany is vulnerable because she puts her guard
down, she seems to be independent because of the places
she goes to and the time in which she goes there, however
she's scared, and you can see it, you can see that she's
worried about her safety and her boyfriend’s safety something
that you wouldn’t expect from a middle class person.
4. Bethany Young
The fact that Bethany is Middle class is shown through her
shoes and her clothes, her vulnerability as a girl that needs
protection is highlighted through the dark alley and the
person following her. This suggests that she’s in danger
and that the detective emphasises the fact that she needs
to be protected.
5. Middle Class & Teenager
Bethany’s boyfriend is also Middle class and in his late
teens, he seems to be the kind of person to protect
those he cares about and those who are closest to him,
however unlike the stalker he doesn’t long to have
power over someone. The power he does have he uses
in order to protect Bethany, but not to control her.
His clothes suggest that he’s middle class and has
money to get the things like he wants much like
Bethany, this may be because his parents work in order
to be able to have the money to buy the things he has
such as his clothes and the stationary for school.
6. Working Class
The stalker in our opening scene represents working class
because it seems as if he works to get the stuff he has,
emphasising the fact that he’s different from Bethany, it
suggests that he wants the money that she has rather
than to love her. His old coat suggests that he doesn’t
have much money to buy things that he wants and
suggests jealousy of the things that Bethany has.
The lust for someone to love suggests that he is a
traditional male looking for the love of a woman, he longs
to have power and be the one who protects someone like
Bethany.
7. Middle Class
The detective is represented as a middle class person
because he has a job and, the money that he has he
spends on clothes to fit in at his work place which is
emphasised by the suit that he’s wearing when
interrogating both Bethany and her boyfriend.
He is also represented as a traditional male, he doesn’t
seem to care much about the way he looks, however he
like the stalker longs to have power over someone who
is vulnerable and needs to be protected.
