3. PERSONAL BACKGROUND
I was born in Chile, where I spent most of my childhood walking and climbing the Andes
Mountains. I became a member of the National rescue team in the mountains when I was 16.
I immigrated to South Africa in 1981 and have made it my home and my Country which I love
dearly.
I became the National Amateur Champion for Ballroom and Latino American dancing in 1995
and decided to open my own ballroom club, which was situated in Bree Street Cape Town.
I have hiked most of the trails in South Africa and climbed Kilimanjaro more than once.
I love Landscapes and enjoy contemplation. I like reading Science Fiction and seeing a good
Science Fiction movie.
I love all aspects of IT and get a thrill out of implementing and working with new technology.
I am a self taught person that does not require supervision to complete my tasks.
I am comfortable working and leading groups of people small and large.
I believe in doing things right first time.
Experience and knowledge in the IT industry
I am a well trained all rounder in the IT industry, having started in 1990 with the XT machines.
I know hardware down to component level, PC assembly from Desktop to Servers, Software,
including the latest Operating Systems on desktops (Windows Vista, XP ,Windows 7 and
Windows 8) and Servers which include Microsoft and Novell, from implementation to diagnostics,
upgrading and maintenance.
I know the networking environment well, having supported and maintained many medium to large
networks for companies on SLA contracts, for many years.
I am well acquainted with Server environments including hardware and software
implementation.
I know Novell up to version 5, Windows server and SBS server, NT server, Exchange Sever and
have worked on Lotus Notes servers under supervision.
I know Powerlan and Cabling Technologies and Topologies (ethernet, token ring and star).
I have been involved in the maintenance and upgrade of many of these environments.
I have extensive knowledge on network protocols implementation and integration with other OS
such as Apple Macintosh and Internet interface.
I have also extensive knowledge on System Backups and redundancies for server
environment and on how to implement and maintain Backup Strategies.
I am a Microsoft Office lecturer and know the suite inside out, down to programming level.
I have done many Programming Projects integrating Microsoft office (Visual Basic, HTML and
java).
I am also a Web developer and designer and provide digital solutions to customers (ie. digital
catalogues etc).
I have extensive knowledge on the DTP arena, having supported and implemented many
solutions in this environment for many years.
I am well conversed in Printers and Scanners and in general DTP and Office equipment.
I have worked extensively with Databases including Accpac, Access and to a smaller extent,
SQL.
I have also 3d Expertise and I am able to create 3D drawings and renderings using various
Software.

experience and outsourcing requirements for someone in the industry.
I am a keen and fast learner if given the opportunity.
I am passionate about and love the IT world and what it can do to people and business if used
correctly.
Experience in other fields
Security ,CCTV and PA Systems
I have been exposed to the field of security systems for many years and have became a
professional installer, having completed more than 250 installations successfully. I am also fully
acquainted with CCTV and PA systems which I have installed in numerous sites including
businesses and warehouses.
Stock control and warehousing
I have worked for over 4 years as a Stock controller and helped manage a 6000square meter
warehouse which specialise in medium to large consignments.
I was in charge of checking of all incoming and outgoing stock, and have developed an Online
System for their clients to have access to their stock.
During this time, I have acquired skills in the running and up keeping of a warehouse of this
nature, including transport, packing and unpacking, logistics, safety and stock care.
I am also able to drive a Forklift (although I am not licensed)
Goals
I am a 100% person, and like to give myself to my work. I am dedicated, hard worker and do not
need supervision to complete my tasks. I am passionate about the IT world, and embrace
technology without any problems.
I am also reliable and like to start my day early.
Because of the fields and business I have been exposed i have been able to gain the knowledge
and skills to run and manage business and people; skills which I have acquired from personal
experience.
I am a lateral thinker and I am able to device solutions that other people would not think possible.
I am looking for an environment were I am stimulated with my tasks, where I have scope to learn
more and grow, and where I can become part of a team.

I worked as an IT manager, Developer and stock Controller. I
developed a system to put the entire warehouse online on the

all aspects of the IT in the company, including Security, LAN,
WAN, Internet , and CCTV system.
(Company has been liquidated and closed down on the 4th
April 2014).
