3. Cardiovascular drug, any agent that affects the
function of the heart and blood vessels. Drugs
that act on the cardiovascular system are among
the most widely used in medicine.
Hypertension (high blood pressure),
angina pectoris (chest pain resulting from
inadequate blood flow through the coronary
arteries to the heart muscle), heart
failure (inadequate output of the heart muscle in
relation to the needs of the rest of the body),
and arrhythmias (disturbances of cardiac
rhythm).

as glyceryl trinitrate (GTN), is a used for heart

and to treat and prevent chest pain caused by decreased
blood flow to the heart (angina) or due to the recreational
use of cocaine. This includes chest pain from a heart
attack It is taken by mouth, under the tongue, applied to
the skin, or by injection into a vein.
