About the Workshop
Generally power generating source are located at remote locations. Transferring bulk electric power from
remote generating station to load center is very challenging for the power engineers. Lack of right of way
and delayed erection of new transmission line corridors are main hurdle for the immediate transferring
bulk power from one end to another end. Recently lot of development havehappened in the power
transmission sector for the lexible bulk power transmission. This is achieved by use of lexible power
deviceswhich enhances the power system stability and reliability. In addition to lexible transmission, fast
andspecialtypeofprotectionschemeshelpedinbetteroperationandcontrolofsuchpowernetworks.
The proposed workshop will cover the some selected topics on lexible power transmission & protection.
The identi ied areas of workshop are application of FACTS devices, numerical relaying schemes and PMUs
applicationforfastoperationandcontrolofpowertransmissionnetworks.
Participants
The workshop is directed towards researchers, power utilities, consultants, designers & practicing
engineers,manufacturersandacademicandresearchinstitutes
Topics to be covered
Ø Introduction and Challenges for bulk Power Transmission.
Ø Role of FACTS devices for power system operation & control.
Ø PMU and its application for wide area protection, operation and control.
Ø Latest Developments in protection schemes for generator, transformer and lines.
Ø Application of numerical relays for fast protection of power components.
Ø ControlledSwitching in Circuit Breakers, power capacitor and power reactors.
Ø Advancement in Carrier line Protection for transmission lines.

CPRI'S PROFILE
Central Power Research Institute (CPRI) set up in 1960 by the Government of India, functions as a
National organization for applied research in power sector and also serves as an Independent
Laboratory for testing and certi ication of power equipment. CPRI provides consultancy services on
variousfacetsofpowersector.CPRIhasexpertiseintheareaofSimulation,SystemAnalysisandTesting
and Diagnostics. CPRI laboratories have modern equipment needed for Power system simulation,
Short circuit testing, Diagnostics of equipment, Materials engineering, Seismic quali ication etc. The
institute has made immense contribution to the advancement of research and development in power
sector besides inding solution to various problems faced by power utilities and industries in areas of
transmissionanddistribution.
CPRI is continually setting new standards in training and continuing education from basic theoretical
information to practical hands-on electrical equipment training. CPRI courses have made substantial
impact on the level of training and education to India's electricity utilities, manufacturing companies,
