Can you tell what genre the film is, how and why?
Yes, I can tell from the image used as it uses a torn shirt with blood on it which shows that something bad has happened or is
going to happen in the film.
I can also tell from the information given where it says 'From the producers of Scream and The Last House on The Left' as they are
well known horror films.
Do you think the main image of the poster is effective?
I think that the image used is effective as it represents horror by including the dark colours, and the scarily looking makeup which
has been used. The dark colours of the poster also make it more effective as it makes it look scarier.
What do you think about the name of the film?
I think the name of the film is effective as it shows the audience that film is going to include harming of other people and also
implies to the audience that the film is going to be a horror.
Do you like the font used?
I like the font used as it is not just boring bold font, it also has an effect on the text which adds to the effect of it being a horror
film advertisement.
From looking at the poster, what do you think the film is about?
From looking at the poster and the title of the film, I think this is about one person who is going to be cursing others and causing
harm to them. I think that the film could be quite gory as the T-shirt has blood and hand prints over it.
Do you like the colour scheme and do you think it represent the horror genre?
I like the colour scheme that has been used because they are dark colours mainly consisting of black and red, these colours
represent danger and fear therefore it makes it more effective for the readers and they will be intrigued to know what this film is
about and what happens in it.
Any suggestions for improvement?
I think that the poster could be improved by having clearer font, as it clashes a bit with the T-shirt in the background, and you
can’t clearly see the 'don’t look back' writing.
Film Magazine
Do you think that my magazine looks like a realistic film magazine?
Yes, I think that it looks realistic because a good image has been used to show that it is a horror film.
What do you think about the name of the magazine?
I think the name of the magazine if effect as it is called ‘FEAR’ therefore it shows that the magazine is going to
be full of scary horror films.
What do you think about the colour scheme?
Again I think the colour scheme which has been used is very effective as they have used dark colours which
represent horror and pain. With the title being bright yellow, this is also effective as it attracts the reader’s
attention which will make them more interested.
Can you recognise that this is the same film as the poster, what links can you see?
I can recognise easily that this is the same film as the poster as a similar effective image has been used which
clearly shows this is going to be the main character who is cursing everyone. And the same font has been used
on both the poster and magazine article. The same colour scheme has also been used on both.
Do you think that having other films promoted on the cover is effective?
I think that having other films promoted on the cover could be effective as it is showing that the magazine
article is full of different horror films, however I think it is more effective having just ‘The Curse’ on the cover,
this is because it shows that this is the scariest of 2015 as it has got its place on the front cover.
Any suggestions for improvement?
I think for an improvement to the magazine article it could include more cover lines which will give the readers
more information about what’s inside of the magazine, this could be very effective as it will make more readers
interested in reading it.
TrailerDo you think that it is like a real film trailer? If so, why? If not, why not?
I think that the trailer is like a real film trailer because it includes the main characters, and also gives the
audience a taster of what the film is about. It also includes the surroundings where the film will be taking place.
Can you tell what genre the film is, if so why?
I can tell what genre the film is because it is in a dark wood; therefore it shows that it is going to include horror
throughout the film. The music also helps me to know what genre it is as it is scary music which adds to the
effect. As the end of the trailer is a screaming girl this shows that something bad is going to happen and makes
people wonder what is going to happen next.
Is the storyline clear?
The story line of this trailer is quite clear as it shows a dark wood and people looking for someone, which
shows something bad has happened or is going to happen. However I think it could include the main character
who is cursing people so it allows the audience to see who this character is and what they are doing, without
giving too much away.
What do you think about the music?
I think the music which is In the background of the trailer is effective as it’s not just the same sound the whole
way through, it has different sounds for example jumpier bits in the song, which implies to the audience that
there are going to be a few jumpier and scarier bits in the film.
Do you like the name of the film?
I like the name of the film as it is very effective in showing the audience that it is going to be a horror film
which is going to include harm and fear. I also like the name as it is short which makes it effective, and makes it
sound scarier.
Any suggestions for improvement?
The improvements that I think could be made for this trailer is that the storyline needs to be a bit clearer so
that the audience have a bit more knowledge of what is going to happen, as this will make them want to watch
the film. The lighting could be made dimmer to make it look scarier, and different camera angels could be
added to make it more effective.
