GROW REVENUE & MARGIN - LOWER COSTS & RISK
1. Business exists to make a profit, summation of all activities ultimately should result in a
profit. Focussing on the major revenue and cost generating activities is key. Being a CPA
helps in identifying those key activities and tie them to the financial results.
“End of the day, the numbers measure financial success”
2. Businesses must have a clear strategy and clear on their unique selling proposition. Tracking
key performance indicators are crucial in knowing if strategy is executed well or if strategy is
right. My background in strategic planning, budgeting, forecasting, business analysis,
intelligence and analytics is key in this area. “If you don’t know where you are going,
you will likely end up somewhere else.”
3. Functional roles bring specialisation but also silos. Businesses struggle with isolated
information, misaligned goals, uncoordinated processes trapped in these different silos. My
experience in working on cross functional projects with Sales, Operations, Finance and IT
has helped me bring alignment and synergy across these teams. I have also led country
operation audit teams to promote best practices and improve business practices and
processes. “Maximise Synergy with specialisation!”
4. Dynamic Market forces demand business adapt or become irrelevant. New projects are
needed to bring new product and service offerings to the market. My value add through
business analysis is to define the problem with data, find solutions and project manage
delivery to achieve results. “Responsiveness to Change sharpen competitive edge”
5. Digital disruption has created chaos for a number of brick and mortar companies. This new
economy is made possible with artificial intelligence, connectivity, faster processing and
higher storage. New business models are taking advantage of data-mining and smarter way
of doing things. My personal investment in a 3 years’ business analytics program and 5
years’ experience in business intelligence and analytics has given me the tools to chart this
new frontier. “Digital revolution is not just a function of technology, rather one of
business evolution.”
6. The above is important but at the end of the day it is people that interface with the
customer, deliver the service, plan and coordinate how work gets done, improve processes
and systems, ensure quality standards, and return a profit. People want to succeed and the
vast majority want to feel good about their work. Personally, I enjoyed winning as a team
and had the pleasure of managing and developing staff. “It is really about People.”
7. Leadership matters, every great organisation is differentiated by great leaders. Business
need to groom, develop and retain good leaders. Quality people want to work for good
leaders and also mentor potential alike. “A good general is worth a thousand
soldiers”
