4. What is Brace
■ A brace is a hand tool that
is used to drill holes in
wood with a drill bit. The
tool is rotated with a U-
shaped grip when
pressure is applied to the
top. Bits of ridgeway and
iron pattern are often
snail-dependent, which is
a tapered screw point
shaped like a wood screw
thread.
4
5. • To study ergonomic principles of hand tool design.
• To examine the hand tool that is currently in use.
• To create a hand tool that follows ergonomic concepts.
• To fix the flaws that still exist.
Objectives
5
6. Methodology
6
The major components of the hand tool, their tasks,
measurements, and relative positions with hand or
palm were established.
To understand the relationship between the handle
and the hand grip, the tool was used for a typical job.
The relations between the body and various parts of the
instrument, as well as the working postures of the body, were
closely examined.
Secondary data related this hand tool was observed to understand the
user's overall impressions as well as anthropometric measures of hand
gripping and other factors.
For better hand-tool interactions, an improved concept with
modifications and a neat sketch was suggested.
8. Problem Facing for Existing Facilities
8
If the material is hard, such as
metal, then user will need a larger,
heavier brace. Small braces can
drill faster but have less torque,
larger braces will drill slower but
can apply more torque. The larger
the sweep of the brace, the more
torque you will be able to apply.
9. What modification
we had done
■ Figure: Brace with Modification
■ Part A is the non-
traditional hand groove
to improve the grip, so
that the handle is not
slippery.
■ Part B is the adjustable
length to make
application easier and
less complex
9
11. ■ Adjustable length help to do work preciously and firster.
■ Now both Short and long handed people can use it for variance in length
■ Non-traditional hand groove for better gripe. It will allow the handle to
be not slippery
■ Suitable for now working with both soft material like wood and hard
materials like concreate
Advantages ofThe Modification

12. Ergonomically Aspects of Designing

Description Guideline Reason
Tool Shape Slightly Contoured Easy Grip
Direction of force is in line
with forearm and wrist
(typically horizontal)
Bent handle Minimal wrist deviation
Direction of force is
perpendicular to forearm
and wrist (typically vertical)
Straight handle Minimal wrist deviation
Handle length >100 mm keep contact out of palm
Handle Diameter (power
grip)
30-50 mm Greater force and stability
Handle diameter (precision
task)
8-16 mm Greater control
Material and texture of
handles
Non-slip non-conductive
materials
For comfort and reduces
effort required to use tool
13. Conclusion
■ Regularly used braces have fixed length for working procedure.
■ The grip of the brace is usually smooth.
■ The fundamental design of the brace changes to add some facilities.
■ The length of the brace is adjustable for user's easier application. With the adjustable
handle it is more efficient to work with.
■ Grooved grip give better handling in long term usage.
