Hafeez Contractor struggled in school, often copying on tests until 11th grade when the principal advised him to take his studies seriously. He scored 50% on his exams that year, which allowed him to get into Jai Hind College in Mumbai where he studied French and German. He frequently visited his cousin's husband's architecture office to learn French. The husband noticed Hafeez's interest and skill in architecture and encouraged him to study it. Though Hafeez only had 50% marks, the college principal allowed him in after he got an A+ on the entrance exam. Hafeez Contractor went on to become a renowned architect.

• BORN on 19th June, 1950 in Mumbai, Maharashtra.
• FAMILY- Parsi / Zoroastrian

• Mother: Roshan, who was a teacher.
• Father : Sorab Contractor , a businessman.
• Education-He did his Graduate Diploma in architecture from
• Mumbai in 1975 and completed his graduation from Columbia University New York (USA)
on a Tata scholarship

3. HIS SCHOOL LIFE
• As a school boy, he did not do well. From the third standard onwards, he seemed
to have lost all interest in studies. He was bad at languages. He hated
Mathematics. He had nightmares about his Mathematics exam. He used to copy
in every test until he reached Class- 11.He was pulled up at school. He received a
caning every week. He didn't bother and he was interested in playing and nothing
else.

4. THE TEACHINGS OF THE PRINCIPLE
• He passed classes till 11 by cheating. One day his school principle called him and
told him to act as a responsible grown-up boy and take his studies seriously. The
Principal’s advice had a deep influence on Hafeez. In hat he did not went out to
play he only ate and studied. In tear he scored 50 marks.

5. JAI-HIND COLLAGE, MUMBAI
• He knew with 50 marks he could not get admission in a collage but because of
influence he got an admission in jai-hind collage in Mumbai. There he had to take
either French or German he studied French for seven years but could not
remember seven words of French so he took German. Some time after his
German teacher died so he had two choices to take another college or adopt
french.t o he took French as he knew he can not get an admission in another
collage.

6. BECAME AN ARCHITECTURE
• His cousin had learned French. So he always went to her husband architecture
office to learn French from her. One day Hafeez saw someone drawing a window
he said it will not open the person asked to bet. Hafeez won that bet seeing this
his cousins husband asked him to drop everything and join architecture. Is
cousin's husband knew a collage from were he could learn architecture. But he
only had 50 mark. But they talked to the principle of that collage and she said if
he gets good grade in entrance he can get an admission he got an A+ and now
he is a well know architecture
