stuck his hand on a tree hole.
Terenty - a mender of shoes
Silanty Silitch - sacristan; Terenty’s
friend.

15. STORY PLOT
A storm is about to begin and the
sorroundings are getting dark. Fyokla was looking
for Terenty. Silanty Silitch told Fyokla that Terenty
was in the kitchen gardens.Terenty removed the
hand of Danilka stuck in the hole. Terenty explained
and described to Fyokla the different things they had
seen in nature. Fyokla thought of their condition
having no home and family. Danilka stayed awake to
think of the wonderful things he had seen during the
day.Terenty left bread for the orphans.
17. WORDS OF WISDOM THE STORY
1. “The grass and the trees are fed by the rain, as
we are by bread.”
2. “The grass will be dry again, the earth will be dry
again, and we shall be dry again. There is the
same sun for all of us.”
3. These people have not learned from books, but
in the fields, in the wood, on the river bank. Their
teachers have been the birds themselves,..the
sun…the very trees, and wild herbs.
