PDHPE
1. PDHPE
Personal Development, Health and
Physical Education is one of the 6
Key Learning Areas in the NSW
Curriculum and one of the most
fun!
Here are the main components of
PDHPE and some reasons we
should value it…
2. Physical Activity
• Physical activity benefits us all by,
• Improving our cardiovascular fitness and keeping our hearts
healthy
• Helps our bones grow stronger, more quickly
• Releases hormones that make us feel great!
• Develops our coordination and reflexes
• Finally…introduces us to the idea of ‘moving’ which we
are more likely to maintain as adults
3. Healthy Eating Choices and Safety
• PDHPE teaches us about anytime and sometime foods so that we can be
responsible to make the right decision throughout our lives.
• By partaking in activities in class and learning about the variety of food
groups, PDHPE ensures we can be as healthy as possible on the inside and
outside.
• PDHPE also informs us about how to recognize potential
risks on the road as pedestrians and passengers, along with other
safety information that ensure our wellbeing as well as contributing
to the wellbeing of the community as a whole.
4. Social Skills
• PDHPE allows us to build healthy relationships with
our peers by learning about the importance of
cooperating, dealing with conflicts and how vital
communicating effectively is.
• By partaking in group-work, collaborative team
building sessions and trust games, PDHPE ensures
we have these social skills that are more and more important as
we develop.
5. Spiritual, Emotional and Mental
Health
• Spiritual health relates to our place in the world, with mental and emotional health
referring to our different feelings and how we cope with these feelings mentally.
• Throughout our PDHPE classes, we learn how to deal with changes in our lives such
as change of friendships, changes in the community or changes at home that can
impact on all 3 areas.
• PDHPE ensures that we can freely discuss issues
worrying us and through sharing experiences
our emotional, mental and spiritual wellbeing
is maintained and developed.
