Summer Camp 2014 Theme Planning
Please notice thatalthoughall activitiesforeveryweekare listed, I have only included instructions and
details, as well as panned day-to-day for the first three weeks of camp. I have also yet to collaborate
morningactivitieswithmyotherstaff person.Myactivitieslistedhere will cover the only the afternoon
portionof the day, and I have not planned more than one activity per day, per week, in hopes that my
staff personwouldplanher/hisownforthe morning.If needbe,I can plan another set with a full list of
instructions for the morning session.
A second activity may be featured for select days. these activities and games will be mostly from the
Boys and Girls Club Back Pocket Guide. The page number is included for the most recent edition.
Week 1 – Friendship
Monday:
Activity- Webof Friends
Suppliesneeded- Ball of yarn,scissors.
Description- All camperswill formamedium-sizedcircle.A ball of yarnwill be handedtoa firstcamper
or staff,and he or she will thenthrowthe ball of yarn to anothercamperof theirchoice,preferably
across the circle.Theymustthengive a complimenttothe receiverof the ball,andthe processrepeats.
Once everycamperor staff has receivedthe ball of yarn,the laststringiscut, forminga “Webof
Friendship”

Tuesday:
Activity- HiddenFacesQuestionnaire
Suppliesneeded- Sheet,Flashlight,GenericQuestions,Chairs.
Description- Twocampers are chosenat random.One sits ona chairbehindthe sheet,andthe otheris
placedbeside them, sothattheycannotsee the hiddenperson.Questionsare thenaskedtothe hidden
person,andthe otherpersontriesto guesswhothe hiddenperson’sidentityis.

Wednesday:
Activity- PaperBall Fall
Suppliesneeded- Paper,Pencils.
Description- CampersandStaff will forma circle,write downaninsecurityonaslipof paper without
writingtheirname,crumple itintoaball,andthrow itto the centerof the circle.Theneveryone
participatingwill sitdown,keepingthe circle formation.One personischosentogo first,thenpicksupa
randomball of paper,andread the insecurityaloud.The persontowhomitbelongsstands,andthe
readerwill complimentthe writerontheirinsecurity, thenthe writerwill choose arandomball and
continue the processuntil there are nopaperballsleft.

Thursday:
FoodCraft- FriendshipMix
Suppliesneeded- Variousdryfoodsand snacks.
Description- Camperswill be askedtobringina dry foodof theirchoice,enoughtoshare withthe
group.A small bitof each varyingfoodwill be mixedinalarge bowl anddistributed,while the staff
explainstothe campersaboutdiversityandhow all the campers“gowell together”regardlessof
differences.

Friday:
Activity- All My Friends
Suppliesneeded- None.
Description- All campersforma large circle by lockinghands,andremainstanding.One camperisleftin
the centerof the formationandbeginsastatement,“All myfriends…..wearflipflops/haveblue eyes/like
horses”or such traits,andall of whomthat thisstatementappliestomusttrade placeswithanother
camperon the other side of the circle andjoinhands.The camper leftoutof the circle isthe nextcenter
camper.
Additional Activity- If youreallyknewme
SuppliesNeeded- None.
Description- Camperswill formacirle,andboysand girlswill be seperated.Theywilleachtake a turn
revealingsomethingaboutthemselvesbegginingwith,"If youreallyknew me..."like,"If youreallyknew
me you wouldknowthatmy parentsare divorced."Theycannotstart conversationsaboutother
campersfacts. The answerswill mostlikelycontinue togetmore personal.Theyare tobe toldthat the
thingsandfacts revealedCANNOTbe sharedtoanyone else outside of the room.
Week 2 – NatureWeek
Monday:
Activity- Cootie BugBalloonRelay
Suppliesneeded- “Cootie Bug” partsmade of constructionpaper,balloons,chairs,table.
Description- Camperswill formteamsof three orfour.A chair will be placesabout30 feetopposite
them.Theywill eachbe givenagroup of balloonsthatwill formacutie bug. Ina relay-race fashion,they
will eachcarry a balloontothe chair opposite theirline,andpopitinany way theyseemfit.Theywill
thencarry the piece of cootie bugto the table,andonce theirteamgathersall the parts,theywill form
the cootie buglike a puzzle.The teamthatformsthe bugfastest,wins.
Tuesday:
Paper Craft- Yarn Bees
Suppliesneeded- ConstructionPaper,BlackandYellow Yarn,Scissors,Glue,Colored
Pencils/Markers/Crayons.
Description- Camperswill eachtrace a bodyof a bee ontotheirchoice of coloredconstructionpaper.
Thentheymay colorit or put designsonitif theychoose.Afterthat,theywill wrapblackandyellow
yarn aroundthe bodiesof the bee inany directiontheychoose, cuttingthe excessoff the sides.Then
the staff will share bee facts,andthe camperswill write 3 onthe back of theirbee.
Wednesday:
FoodCraft- Banana Bug FoodCraft
Suppliesneeded- Bananas,DriedCranberries,Pretzels,Apples.
Description- Camperswill eachreceive ahalf of a banana,twodriedcranberries,twoPretzels,andtwo
slicesof apple.Then,theywillassemble the pretzelsinthe side of bananatoform wings,the apple slices
out of the top for antennae,andthe twodriedcranberriesto looklike eyes.The staff will thentalk
aboutthe life processof abutterflywhilethe campersenjoytheirsnack.
Thursday:
Activity- FlowerNectarShooters,(Bee Recap)
Suppliesneeded- Water shooters,LabeledHorizontal Buckets,Bucketof Water,Stopwatch,Antennae
Headband
Description- Camperswill formteamsof three orfour.Staff will give the firstpersononeachteam
antennae towearand a squirtgun, alongwiththeirbucketof nectar(water).Theywill thenshoottheir
nectar intothe bucketslabeledwithvariouspointsunderaspecifiedtime.One staff perteam, theywill
calculate the pointsdependingonthe squirtsof watermakingitto the buckets.Whentime isup,the
campermust had the antennae andgunto the nextcamperon theirteam.Whentime isoverfor the
lastperson,the pointswill be calculated,thenthe teamwiththe mostpointswins.
Friday:
Activity- Trackers Adventure
Suppliesneeded- Clip-Boards,Paper,PencilswithErasers,Stopwatch.
Description- Camperswill be sentoutside aroundthe parktofindanimal tracks,withan allottedtime.
Theywill thensketchthe trackson theirpapers,andcontinue tolookfortracks as a group.The group
withthe highestnumberof trackswins.
