“The complexity of tourism and tourism needs of the world population lead to the
change of tourism demand. Recent trends in the tourism industry indicate increased
demand for new, alternative and specific types of tourism” (Daniloska, Hadzi
Naumova-Mihajlovska, 2015).
Thesis
The main purpose of this article is to increase an understanding of the importance of
rural tourism for sustainable rural development and is therefore divided into two
sections: rural tourism and sustainable rural development (Daniloska, et. al, 2015).
Research
The type of information that was used in this article is qualitative. They researched
rural tourism and sustainable rural development and how they are important to
countries all over the world. The motivation of tourists to visit destinations has
changed over the years. Now tourists are more interested in specific things,
enthusiastic activities, and in the quality experience of touristic products and
services. People want new types of tourism. Environmentally friendly tourism has
become very popular and has allowed rural areas to become equally involved in
tourism (Daniloska, et. al, 2015). The authors researched rural tourism. For tourism
to be considered rural tourism, it should have characteristics that are typical and
specific to a rural area including small settlements, low population densities,
agriculture-based economies and traditional societies (Daniloska, et al, 2015). The
term rural means open and spacious. It is known for the architecture and traditional
culture. Rural tourism offers a different experience than to those offered in a big
city. It is important to have activities in a rural town for people to do. According to

Daniloska, sustainable development is development that meets the needs of the
present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own
needs (2015). Sustainability issues can be classified into three big categories called
the Sustainable Development Triangle. The three categories are: social/political,
environmental and economic issues.
Strengths and Weaknesses
Daniloska and Hadzi Naumova-Mihajlovska did a really good job reading this article.
I enjoyed reading it and learned many things. One of the strengths is having the
article not too short but also not too long. They didn’t drag out what didn’t need to
be long and they didn’t cut short any important information. They explained
everything every well. They used definitions and a picture to help explain what
some things meant. This article was really detailed in the rural tourism area. I
learned a lot of things that I did not know about rural tourism and sustainable
tourism. Another strength is the authors talk about eco-tourism and cultural
tourism. This is important because these two things go hand in hand with rural and
sustainable tourism. I really liked how Daniloska and Hadzi Naumova-Mihajlovska
talked about rural tourism and sustainable tourism separately then combined the
two and talked about them together. They had an introduction and conclusion and
made the article easy to read. I really enjoyed reading this article. There aren’t very
many weaknesses to this article. One weakness would be maybe not enough
pictures. A couple more pictures would help them explain what they are talking
about more in depth.

Significance and Implications
The significance of this article related to rural tourism is very simple. Rural tourism
is apart of the title. It is talked about throughout the whole article and explained
very well. Rural tourism is important. They want to implement rural tourism around
the world more than it already is. It is becoming more popular and that is great for
many smaller towns/cities in many different countries. The authors made a
connection throughout the article between rural tourism and sustainable rural
development. According to Daniloska and Hadzi Naumova-Minhajlovska every rural
area is special, but thanks to it’s many types, rural tourism can contribute to
developing as a tourist destination and as a place pleasant to live, work, visit and
invest in (2015).
