YoungProfsNet Programme Council: invitation to apply
We already announced our intention to establish a Programme Council to develop and oversee
our work programme. The Programme Council will really be a limited group of core members,
who are interested to contribute to the development of YoungProfsNet as a working network
and platform for mutual and cooperative learning and development.
Already we developed some thoughts on potential members, whom we shall want to invite to
join. These include members of YoungProfsNet, who are our representatives in various
countries. At this moment in time, we are thinking of council of some 50-60 members.
At the latest meeting of the network directors in the beginning of November, we discussed this
further. And we unanimously decided that for maximum transparency we also would like to
invite members, who would be interested to be part of the Programme Council, to apply to join
the council. We expect that at least half of the council members will be chosen from the
members, who apply.
Organisational challenges
At the latest network directors meeting we also talked about the organisational challenges that
we face. We have now grown to a network of around 1100 members in 80 countries. And we
are regularly asked what YoungProfsNet has delivered so far; what do we have to show for ?
Considering that we only started with YoungProfsNet at the end of May of this year and that we
have been going for just six months, that question is really a bit premature, especially as the
members work on YoungProfsNet activities in their spare time. But it is a valid question. And
we have to demonstrate that YoungProfsNet actually works and delivers.
We therefore decided that we now want to focus on designing, developing and executing a work
programme for YoungProfsNet. And the Programme Council will be instrumental in doing that.
That means that the Programme Council will devise a number of activities for YoungProfsNet
members to work on that cover the breadth of the areas of interest that we have defined. In
addition, Programme Council members will review projects proposals from members for
approval and will also be involved in peer reviewing work products of YoungProfsNet.
