3. KEY POINTS
*The lesson is an article by Mrs. Vijaylakshmi Pandit. It is a
tribute to Mahatma Gandhiji’s role in her life. She has shared
a few incidents in her life and has narrated how Gandhiji’s
advice helped her.
*Mrs.Pandit underwent a period of deep anguish when she
lost her husband and she was denied her share of the family
property. The law too did not support her.

*Before leaving for America as an Indian ambassador, she met
Gandhiji who asked her to make peace with her relatives.
Initially , she refused. Gandhiji advised her , “No one can harm
you but yourself.”
*On another occasion , she went as to NewYork, as a leader of
the Indian delegation to the UNITED NATIONS. She
remembered Gandhiji’s words: “Means are as important as the
end.”

During a debate ,regarding the treatment of Indians in South Africa,
she remembered his words,
“MEANS ARE AS IMPORTANT AS THE END”
In the third instance,she had invited the PrimeMinister of Great Britain
and Lady Eden for a dinner party. A drunk cook had not got dinner
ready.She remembered Gandhiji’s advice and did not lose her temper.
With the help of her assistants, she managed to get dinner ready for
her guests.The food was appreciated too.
