PROJECT ROSE
• Project ROSE "Retrofit of Strike Element“
• Pakistan Air Force (PAF) Pakistan Aeronautical Complex.
• Upgrades of the military avionics and electronics system of its aging
Mirage III fighter jets.
• France (by Dassault Aviation) or in Australia
• Modernization of military avionics and the on-board computer system
of Mirage III.
• French SAGEM, and the Italian SELEX consortiums, as part of the
program.

BOUGHT FROM THE OTHER COUNTRIES
• In 1991, the PAF bought 50 Australian Mirage IIIO/D.
• 45 of the 50 Dassault Mirage III fighters received from Australia were
found to be suitable for service with the PAF.
• 12 of them were overhauled at PAC and made operational.
• After being inspected, the remaining 33 were selected for upgrade
under Project ROSE.
• 33 of the ex-Australian Dassault Mirage IIIO/D aircraft of the PAF were
modified to ROSE I standard.

GRIFO M3 FIRE-CONTROL RADAR
• The integration of a new Italian fire-control radar.
• Grifo M3 gave Mirage III ROSE I fighters the ability to fire advanced
beyond visual range (BVR) radar-guided air-to-air missiles.
• PAF's standard short-range air-to-air missile at the time, the AIM-9L
Sidewinder, was integrated with the Grifo M3 radar.

A330 MRTT Update 2012 These slides were presented during the Trade Media 2012 event held at Madrid, Spain and Toulouse, France in May 2012. The slides were prepared for presentation by Antonio Caramazana, VP, Head of Airbus Military Derivatives, but he was on travel and not available to give the briefing. In his stead, Francisco Carrasco, Director RSAF MRTT Program provided the briefing and answered questions. The briefing provides an overview on the tanker and the status with the launch customers. The non-U.S. market of course is dominated by the A330 MRTT tanker.

The goal of stealth technology is to make an airplane invisible to radar. There are two different ways to create invisibility: The airplane can be shaped so that any radar signals it reflects are reflected away from the radar equipment. The airplane can be covered in materials that absorb radar signals. Most conventional aircraft have a rounded shape. This shape makes them aerodynamic, but it also creates a very efficient radar reflector. The round shape means that no matter where the radar signal hits the plane, some of the signal gets reflected back:

As radar users see ever increasing complexity in signal and data processing, it is tempting to believe that quantum increases in detection performance will become available. However, the laws of physics have not changed. and fundamental detection performance will only improve slightly as small improvements are squeezed out of one or other section of a radar. What is changing is the ability to analyze the radar signal in progressively more detail. High speed processing is allowing the use of principles which have long been understood, but which have not previously been incorporated owing to technology limitations. An airborne radar receives signals which contain not only target echoes, but additional inputs from a variety of sources. These Include; clutter from the main radar beam and sidelobes; selfgenerated thermal noise: nondeliberate electronic interference; and perhaps jamming. The first objective of signal processing is to reject the clutter, which may include not only ground returns, but rain and ground moving targets as well. Jamming requires a book in its own right and will not be covered here. but suitable processing techniques can be used to weaken its effects.

The Disaster at Bhopal On the night of December 2, 1984, a leak developed in a storage tank at a Union Carbide chemical plant in Bhopal, India. The tank contained 10,000 gallons of methyl isocyanate (MIC), a highly toxic chemical used in the manufacture of pesticides, such as Sevin. The leak sent a toxic cloud of gas over the surrounding slums of Bhopal, resulting in the death of over 2,000 people, and injuries to over 200,000 more.
