2. Artists who have used social networking sites as promotion:
Lily Allen was well known for using social networking as promotion for herself. Even
though she used this through the not so popular now ‘MySpace’. As you can see from
Lily Allen’s MySpace profile picture that she would upload music to the website but also
release dates for tours or singles/albums. This reached out to the younger generation as
it was them that were using the social networking sites. This made her fan base a lot
bigger than it would have been if she hadn’t used MySpace.
Rita Ora has also used social networking sites to build up her fan base and promote
herself through the very popular ‘Twitter’. From the page below you can see straight
away that the blue tick means its verified so that her fans know it is Rita’s twitter not just
a fan twitter page. She also shows pictures from any photo shoots to keep her fans
involved. She tweets when she has any interviews to watch or Ustream and she also
tweets about gigs and her album.

3. How my group might use social
networking sites to promote them...
Our artist is called Luna Small’s and we will definitely use social
networking sites as a lot of your fans or target audience will be on
them. Using ‘Twitter’ would definitely help create a fan base because
if you follow artists that you really like that link to your kind of genre our
twitter would then be shown to people that follow them and it goes in
a chain like that. Also you are able to tweet 24/7 wherever you are
and with the new smart phones you have location which can show
everyone where you are. With ‘Facebook’ you can make an event
which would be then be shown to all your friends and invites them. So
it could be a gig which then can be sent from them to their friends
and it carries on like that. I think that this will be really good for our up
and coming artist as it puts you out there and a lot of artists are on
twitter as it is free publicity.
