Film Title: Mistaken Incarceration
Length of the film:
I think in terms of length I am going to go for 5-10 minutes in order to
fit in the full story and then also get a lot of action packed into the
film as well. Furthermore, I think if I end up making the film too long
there will be places I which the film will be uneventful and I want to
try and avoid that as much as possible and make sure that there is as
much action as possible to entertain the viewers and leave them on
edge.
Tagline: Sometimes two personalities cross, for the wrong reasons…
Key Characters:
Character 1 – Michael, he is an adult in his mid-20s and a trained
martial artist with a black belt, he knows how to fight his ways out of
situations very easily. He attends his martial arts groups very regularly
and make sure that he knows what to do when bombarded by an
attacker. He lives alone but hangs out regularly down the pub with his
best mate Theo and has a catch-up. In terms of class he is of the C1
working class, as he doesn’t earn loads of money but manages to
control what he treats himself to, so therefore he regularly keeps up
with his payments and subscriptions.
Character 2 – Theo, also an adult in his mid-20s and a very close mate
of Michael after knowing him for pretty much all of his life. He works
at a media and telecommunications company locally to where Michael
lives and makes quite a bit of money from it. So overall if he was on
the ABC1 scale he would be of a B or close to an A meaning that he is
3. 3
of a fairly high class in general. He can provide for himself in many
ways and is able to treat himself regularly and if Michael also need
some help financially, which usually isn’t the case, he is also able to
provide for him too.
Character 3 – The criminal, famous for kidnapping over 20 people for
no known reason and has spent over 30 years incarcerated in prison.
He is wanting to escape because he now understands what he has done
wrong and doesn’t want to spend the rest of his life in prison due to
the fact that he has learnt from his actions. He is around his 40s now
and will spend the rest of his life in prison under high security. Before
his life in prison he used to work a part-time job and was around the
middle class and was making okay money but he decided to throw that
all away just because of his actions.
Synopsis:
Act 1 – It starts off with Michael finishing off his martial arts class for
the day and then makes his way down to the pub to have a drink with
his mate Theo. Everything starts off normal as he is driving to make his
way down the road. He enters the pub to see his friend as they have
not seen each other in a long time.
As they are catching up with each other, they notice that a lot of
police cars that have pulled up in the car park and the two guys are
very confused as to why this is the case. To their horror, a load of
police come in and storm Michael and he has no idea as to why. A
massive fight starts between him and these police guards and he tries
his best to fend them off successfully being able to fight them and
then run away. As he runs home, he sees on the news that someone
has been caught robbing a bank and the person looks the spitting
image and is identical to Michael, so they must of got something mixed
up and have been given the wrong location and personality description
of the person.
Act 2 – Confused, he speaks to his parents and says to them that he is
on the chase from the police for something that he didn’t do and the
parents are shocked and scared of the situation that he is since they
want him to be safe, like every parent would want for their child. He

explains that he will have to disguise himself so that he doesn’t get
found by the police and get prosecuted for the wrong reasons.
Meanwhile, in an undisclosed location they have called upon one of
their famous and notorious criminals in the jail that is famous for
kidnapping in order to help them and if he is successful, they will
release him from jail so that he can have a free life. They tell him that
this criminal has been done for bank-robbing and that he needs to be
incarcerated and potentially killed for his actions as he has tried to
fight and kill the guards that were trying to get him in the first place.
His handcuffs are released and he goes about his mission.
He goes out on his adventure and part of his plans is to lure him in with
his friend so that he will come to him. It is a cold Sunday night in
which he manages to climb through one of the lounge windows that has
been left open as Theo has gone upstairs to brush his teeth. He hears a
creak on the stairs when he is brushing his teeth and then goes to
investigate what is going on, he walks down the stairs only to be
greeted by the kidnapper and then he blacks out from the situation.
He wakes up in this random garage that he has never seen before and
is greeted by the criminal and is very scared. Initially, he asks him
where Michael and he is very reluctant to tell his whereabouts. Then
the criminal suggests that he should come to save you otherwise you
won’t ever be able to escape. Theo is still very reluctant to the
situation and still doesn’t want to say anything in order to put Michael
and himself in jeopardy. The criminal doesn’t like how Theo is not
giving any information for him to infer from so therefore he threatens
to shoot him with a gun if he doesn’t give up his act. He gives in and
then sends Michael a text to come to the location ASAP. He receives
this text and runs over to see to his surprise that Theo is tied up.
Act 3 – A shadow emerges from the darkness of the garage to come and
greet Michael and tell him that he is glad that he came here because
he needs to come with him or otherwise he will kill his best friend. He
tries to explain that he has not done anything and that he has been
mistaken for someone else and he therefore doesn’t think that he
should be incarcerated for something that he hasn’t done. The criminal
doesn’t want to listen to him and thinks that he is just lying and is
about to kills his best friend. Just before he is about to pull the

trigger, Michael comes and attacks him and they have a fight and he
manages to come victorious out of the fight. He leaves him there
injured and doesn’t kill him because then he knows that he will be
going to jail if that was the case making this whole situation pointless.
Furthermore, after all of this they find the guy that robbed the bank
on the street with a lot of money on him and they chase after him and
catch him.
They take him to the police and at first they are shocked and mad that
Michael escaped the whole situation and said to him that he will be put
in jail due to his actions but after he explains to them that he has
found the main guy and that he should be locked up because he got
falsely accused they are very happy and want to repay. Michael
declines the offer and says to them that it isn’t a big deal and that you
don’t need to repay him. He walks off with his mate back down to the
pub and then lives a normal from then on.
Target Audience:
I think that the typical target audience for this film will be of a
teenager range to lower young adult so typically between the ages of
16-25. I also think that it could appeal to the younger audiences as
well but the mainstream audience is most likely going to be the people
in the younger adult range. This film will be more aimed at the Male
gender because of the characters first of all, since they are both male
they are easier to relate to, and also the fact that the idea of fighting
and armed combat with items like guns are more aimed to males than
females.
In terms of the NRS scale I think that the audience will be of around a
C1 or a C2 range which is the working class and the characters in the
film are in the working class as well meaning that they are relatable
for the audience as well, so therefore there will be more traction
towards the film for this reason. In terms of the Young and Rubicam
4Cs Scale the main audience I would assume would be in the
mainstream category and the succeeder category as well as they are
the main characters personality traits as well and it comes back to the
relation of the characters, especially with the succeeder as the main
character Michael aims to strive and achieve his goals with
determination.

Form/Style:
For the form and the style, this film shouldn’t be more different to
that of your normal feature film. The film will be shot on 35mm lens
and also will have the style of just a normal colour palette. One of the
main reasons that I have decided to go with this is because to the eye,
this will be more visually pleasing for the people to see and look at.
Furthermore, I feel if this to be shot differently, it wouldn’t make
sense as most films are shot basically with 65mm lens camera with
IMAX film, however due to the budget of the film this was not going to
be possible as the film and the camera equipment is way out of the
aspirational range that I could potentially have.
Marketplace:
Potentially, I see this film in the marketplace in commercial stores but
I feel like that it won’t be a standalone film because it will be too
short and it would have to sell for very little due to the content
involved in the film, so therefore I think that the film will be part of a
short films set that would sell for more money. However, in terms of
streaming websites such as Netflix and Amazon Prime Video, I don’t
think that the film would be compatible of that website and won’t get
much traction due to there being a lot of well-known series that will
flush the less mainstream series but would potentially do well at short-
film festivals and other specific events.

Draft Script of a Key Scene –
Scene 1 – Interior. Police Office. Day.
After finding out that Michael run away from all the police officers and fought most of
them off, the police force calls upon one of their famous kidnapping criminals

The criminal
(pauses) No, why?

And you are calling upon someone who has been incarcerated for 30 years for
kidnapping to help you guys. There is nothing in it for me.
Second in Command Police Officer
He’s not going to listen to us, why should we try. He’ll just bribe us.
The Criminal
Of course, I will. Do you think I’m stupid?
Main Police Officer
(shouts) Enough!
(silence falls across the room for five seconds)
(quietly) Right. I’ll cut you a deal. You bring our guy, we will grant you freedom. We
don’t care what you do, as long as you bring him alive. Deal?
(The criminal thinks about the situation and the offer)
