5. What
Werdley was a card line that partnered with talented,
emerging artists from around the world to make
beautiful cards that were great for writing on any
occasion and looked stunning as decoration.
In addition to working with and empowering fantastic
artists, Werdley partnered with Plant With Purpose, a
4/4 stars charity organization that was (and still is!)
transforming the lives of impoverished families in the
poorest parts of the world.

6. Why
“I once read that one of the top regrets of
the dying is, ‘I wish I'd had the courage to
express my feelings.’ Frankly, it scared me
a little, so since then I’ve been trying to live
my life a little more bravely and honestly. I
wanted to start a card company to help
others do the same.”

7. Why
There were a lot of reasons to start Werdley, but here are
three things we were driven by:
We’re passionate about meaningful correspondence.
We’re inspired by creative souls and their artwork.
We believe in compassion + generosity.

18. We planned to donate through PWP ’s programs
for providing chickens, pigs, goats, and trees to
families in the poorest rural regions in the world.
We detailed the individual benefits of each animal
on our website’s ‘The Cause’ page (and on the next four slides).

19. Chickens supply a continual source of eggs that can be eaten
for protein or sold in the market -- a literal nest egg for a family.
Chickens also provide pest control and fertilizer for vegetable
gardens. As with the other animals, families will learn how to
care for their chickens so they’ll stay healthy and continue to
produce nutritious eggs for years to come. With the income
these chickens provide, families can finally afford to cover the
cost of essential health care.

20. Pigs are low-maintenance animals that require little space
and can survive on food scraps. The average sow can
produce 15 piglets a year, which mature into 200-pound hogs
in as little as six months. That big pig will get a good price at
market and provide substantial income for a poor family.
Families can use this income to, among other things, invest in
their future.

21. Nutritious goat’s milk -- a great source of calcium and protein --
is easier to digest than cow’s milk, causes fewer allergic
reactions, and is naturally homogenized. The income a poor
family gains by selling milk and offspring can provide education
for their children. And, because goats can eat just about
anything and survive in harsh conditions, they’re low-
maintenance.

22. Every $1 given plants a tree. Deforestation and poverty are intimately linked.
As trees are cut down, surrounding farms become less productive, water
sources dry up, and erosion carries away the nutrient-rich topsoil. Planting
trees fights poverty by restoring soil and water sources, which bring
productivity back to the land. Fruit trees protect against erosion and provide a
source of food at the same time. Nitrogen-fixing trees add vital nutrients back
into the ground while anchoring and buffering topsoil. The results are
increased food production and better nutrition for hungry children. Larger
crop yields also lead to greater family income, which means money for
children’s school fees and renewed hope for tomorrow.
